I find it interesting that most of the dealerships that are closing are more on the east coast. Here in the Bay Area we have many Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep dealerships. We did have one close in Sunnyvale last September and Livermore and Oakland are on the list to be closed, but we still have 2 in San Jose, 1 in Hayward, 1 in Dublin and I believe a couple more as well. On the flipside up north a little both Chico Yuba City and Oroville are listed to be closed once that happens people will have to go to Redding Red bluff or Sacramento to buy a Chrysler product or have warranty work done which is between 1 and 2 hours away. Does that make sense to anyone because it doesn't to me.

Many of these business decisions are being made by political figures in this administration. For everyone who thinks the government takeovers are the best thing for our economy...please, the govt can even manage social security. It's most evident our current president has a very socialist ideology.

I will be very interested to see what types of cars "New Chrysler" will be selling now that they are partnered with FIAT.
I agree the U.S. Government has it's hands full trying to run what they have to run ( social security,etc.). They haven't done a very good job with that. I don't feel very confident they will do much better helping run the auto industry.

Dealerships are being closed due to "underperformance". Aside from the Challenger and the newest trucks (although my opinion is that they are TOO FREAKIN' BIG), how can they expect to sell the fugly CRAP on the dealer's lots?

I drive by a Dodge dealership daily and see almost NOTHING I would consider parking in my driveway.

For years now, I haven't heard anyone say "Hey, did you see the new Dodge "blah-blah" ? What a sharp looking car". Nope, no sharp looking cars on the mopar lots. At least the Cerberus Hell Hounds learned from Dumbler-Benzover's mistakes. NOT. duhduhduh

I to dislike the dealer aditude but its just not that simple .some dealers are people with no morals but we can not over look the salesman and front desk to the parts dept and dont forget mechanics ,the common denom is people . so to say its collateral damage or just business and they deserve what they sow would mean all involved are accountable ,which leads to other business and every one that has lost jobs could also be seen as morally and ethically bankrupt. this could be as little as a co worker looking the other way when one cooks the books or cheats the clock or sick day abuse . we have been a lazy lot and need to look within ourselfs to fix our problems we no longer can blame a company or a political plat form . today i stopped in at a tire shop and when i lowered the tail gate on a scratch free dodge the guy was to busy to put his cell down to remove some wheels ,when i told him i would remove them to keep him from scratchig my truck by lack of focus and working with one hand his responce was its only a truck . the shop owner was standing there and no response at this point so i closed my tail gate and said i was taking my business elseware . this is my day to day experience and it never changes im lucky to see 1 in 10 people that i would hire in a days outing . it starts with each and every one of us.

Drove by a Chevy dealer yesterday and the lot was full. Drove buy this afternoon and not a single car was in the lot and the furniture was out of the building.

There wasn't even a "Blow Out" Sale or any news about the closing.

Why does everyone assume that people who think Obama is a screw up is a Republican?

Also, Joe, it is out there for you to find out, Barney Frank and his goons are the ones who created the housing debacle with their belief that everyone is ENTITLED to a home loan! This created the toxic assets that caused banks to fail. Banks fail and everything else follows suit. I blame Bush as well for bailing them out in the last months of his office.
With Obama's administration shelling out a TRILLION F'ing DOLLARS to banks and car companies it just shows they are two wings of the same bird. Bush liked to spend a whole bunch of money fighting a war that could have cost us half of what we spent (Don't blame the war, it's not the war's fault!)
Obama on the other hand has much more socialistic views and will WASTE our tax dollars at new heights and has dangerous foreign policy theories.

BTW, Joe, YOU need to go back to Economics class. Skip Economy class.

OK, getting back ON topic, I read on another Mopar site and heard on the CBS(?) news that Chrysler will give the canned dealers invoice price MINUS incentives (rebates, blah, blah) for all the cars that are not sold by the deadline. No, it's still not fair by any means, but let's hope they're not going to "steal back" cars on dealers' lots. I personally don't think closing all these dealerships will solve anything, but I'm just Joe Schmoe, not a six figure, white collar genius.

Nobody seems to want to admit that like anything else, car sales go in cycles. Just because 14 million cars got sold in 2007 does not guarantee that MORE cars will be bought in 2008. Very few people buy a car every year, especially considering the average middle-class person takes out a six year loan to pay for their new car. I don't think they'll be in the market again for at least EIGHT years. (Two years with no car payment....

)

I'm still amazed at the HUNDREDS of MILLIONS that are spent on advertising. Simple macro economics seem to have slipped by these korporate wizards.

Who said anything about what this country is run on? You're the one who feels that President Obama's in bed with the Unions has something to do with todays economy. If this is in fact your belief, then you need to take an economy class.
