Officially Moving to Barstow, CA
« on: May 23, 2009 - 11:15:06 AM »
Well, I am officially moving to Barstow to be a wildlife biologist for Ft. Irwin. I will be studying some desert tortoises, ground squirrels, and who-knows-what-else. If anyone is in that area or has any good tips for where to go, drop me a line. My girlfriend and I will probably be bored based on the comments I've heard after the first couple of months. As long as I plan to stay there long-term, I'll ship my Challenger out from Ohio in a few months. I can always do the Route 66 car show...

Anyone want to get a drink or a burger? Show me some fun things in LA/Vegas?

I am an hour south of your new location.  And, I get up to Barstow about once a week.

Burgers and beers sound great.

    Lake Isabella is a cool place not to far from you. Then wind on down the mountain, beside the river, and go see the Buck Owens Place in Barstow.  I had seen land toroises's in Boron, just up the road from you, when I was working at that soda ash mine

Have fun out there Golden.

Wow, what a cool move.
Daryl Finch is not too far off. He has a beautiful E-body 'yard up in the high desert.
If there is something you NEED, he is the man. HIs prices are not cheap, but you get what you want.
Also, 3+ hrs away is San Diego. Not all that bad. Fish tacos, the Brig....Teriyaki 101

Dan

One E body saved, 7 years and counting.

Good to hear about the new job! Can't say that Barstow is a shining example of our state, but there are still a lot of cool things to check out not too far from there. And the SoCal car scene is pretty freaking awesome. It is, after all, where most of the car culture all got started. Sure, it may all have been built in Detroit, but if it hadn't been for the hot rods on the dry lake beds outside of LA we might never have had muscle cars!

I'm in SoCal and drive through Barstow every other weekend (more often lately, since I'm in between jobs).  I hope you and your gf are heat tolerant, I drove through there Friday night and it was still 96 DEG at 9PM.

If you're into off-roading, it's a cool place to be.  If you're into boating, the Colorado River is 2 1/2 hours away.  Vegas is 2 hours away.  You'll be in the middle of everything!

I am pretty excited just to be somewhere new and see new things. I've got a list, miles long, of what I want to do when I make it out there.

I just will have to wait a month or so to ship my Challenger out there. :( Maybe I will buy a new v6 Challenger or Camaro when I get out there... Hmm...
