Help with 727
« on: May 24, 2009 - 03:03:09 PM »
Lost reverse in my 727 at first I thought I broke the band but it is acting odd.
The car wants to move forward in park and neutral and it’s not sure what it wants to do in reverse.
Any thoughts  :clueless: do I have to pull it or can I just drop the pan and adjust something?

I had a 727 do that once. I had to take the valve body off and a cup under it, it had tipped sideways. It also hurt a rubber seal. It tried to roll in park n neutral and also bind up like yer saying. Not sure if its the same problem tho. It does sound the same. I was told to never go into reverse from park on a new rebuild. Go from neutral to forward. Something has to fill up to make the cup and seal do right or it kicks sideways sometimes

The forward clutches are burnt up and welded together.

Is reverse the only problem gear? Does it still have 3rd?

Just wondering if it popped the low/reverse servo link or flipped the low reverse piston

That sucks if the forward clutches are toast.

Yep I thought of that but; if the trans has to come out I should just start putting the 6 speed in.  :working:
So much for making it through the summer with the auto  :burnout: broke it on the first drive.

Ya  :pullinghair: I will pull the pan and look but I don’t know much about the inside of an auto so anything that falls out must be broken…  :22yikes:

When it broke, I just finished a small burnout in the driveway, the motor died and I had some odd smoke roll up from under the hood, no obvious fluid leeks so Terry's forward clutch diagnosis sounds plausible.

So much for showing off…   :smilielol:
