TA Hood Springs
« on: May 25, 2009 - 07:39:20 PM »
Hey guys,

I'm likely to go with an aar quality fiberglass TA Hood or one from meg-lite out of El Paso, TX (on eBay) and just wanted to find some referrals for the TA Hood springs as I'm not sure if either of the above sells them?

Thanks, Charlie

Someone was (is?) reproducing them, but it certainly was not Lowes. Hardware store springs may work, but they do not resemble the OE springs at all.

StRoKer,

Now I remember checking in with Lowes, but didn't know what springs you were referring to.  I would love to have Lowes part number the next time you stop in there.

Thanks a lot. Charlie

I bought the hood from e-bay ( texas) It's in paint now. I think I got my hood springs from Roseville Moparts ,they sponsor this site. Check him out?

I do not know what the spring shown in the photo above is for, but it is not for a T/A. This is a T/A hood spring;

The spring on my picture came with the car when i bought it and the previous owner insists that it is original. Obviously it is not correct. I tried it on and seems to work well though.  :clueless:
The other one came with a spare steel hood.

I have 2 spare hood hinges and they both have different size springs. One is a noticeably lighter spring.
 :clueless: Are there any part numbers on the hinges that could distinguish between a normal hinge and a T/A hinge?

The hinges themselves are the same for '70, only the springs differ.

AARs springs have fewer coils due to the hood weight being lighter than a T/A hood.

if you use them garage door type springs your fiberglass hood will eventually crack....  :working:
