Challenger Door Panels
« on: May 25, 2009 - 09:51:24 PM »
Over the past few years, I've accumulated a couple sets of door panels and was going through them to pick the best for redyeing white as replacements in my Vert.  I noticed two did not have the holes precut for the woodgrain inserts (although the part numbers are identical to the others (with the holes)

It is my understanding that all Challengers came with woodgrain inserts on the door panels except for some of the very early '70 models.    Is this accurate?   If so, then does it follow that these door panels are also for an early Challenger?    If so, I wonder if I should leave them..... perhaps someone is lusting after a set without the inserts?   :feedback:

Hello friend. Can't answer you question fully but my 1970 Challenger (Oct 69 build) doesn't have inserts either.  :dunno:

The panels in question wouldn't happen to be Tan would they?

I would guess the are very rare to be in good condition with no holes for the inserts ,personally I would not add the holes

Chryco:    Yeah... that's what I was thinking also -- the frustrating part is they are the best of what I have and would like to use them -- but I also respect their uniqueness.....    ???

They were in use for the first few months of production, they are not rare. If you are not in a hurry, you could try & trade them to someone who needs an early set. Otherwise, do not feel bad about using them, added holes & all.

Thanks for the advice Barry.   I'm not in a big hurry (just another a summer project) - and if anyone wants to trade, I sure would.    That said, if they aren't that rare, then I won't feel that guilty (I actually have 3 that don't have the holes....)

Chryco     Not specifically.   But, I have some door panels (as indicated, I plan on using the best two for my project and can certainly part with the others -- some are in better shape than others).   I think I have an extra SE lower carpet piece with reflector (I have to look to see if it is driver or passenger side) and I think it is green (but could be dyed/painted).   I do not have any SE woodgrain inserts for the door panels.     \

If any of this is of interest to you, let me know.....

Might be , I have the same dilemma , I have a SE drivers door panel with no mirror hole for the Joy stick , I am reluctant to cut it as how many SE or R/T SE cars were ordered without the remote left mirror ??

Chryco:   The panel has the carpet panel & SE woodgrain insert -- but no mirror hole?   That is different!    I have one (maybe more) without the mirror hole.....    Now that I think of it, I should do an inventory!   ;)

Interesting.   :naughty:

I bought a nice set of S/E  door panels for my car. I had to drill a hole for the mirror remote control.

I did the same thing with mine, except my car came with a remote mirror - but it wasn't hooked up. The remote was just laying on the inside bottom of the door.   :dunno:
