Is there a newspaper add online to read up on this?  I'd like to follow along.  Sounds like a good read.   I cant see burning expensive cars up on purpose for money when they could be sold at no risk.

Please post a link to an article for us...OK?

Because the prices have dropped so much in the last 3 years, the owner probably had the cars insured for more than he can sell them for right now.

I'm not saying the guy burned his own cars, but in this economy desperate people do desperate things and nothing surprises me anymore.  If I was a detective or the insurance company, the owner would definitely be a suspect.

Unfortunately I see this stuff all the time -INSURANCE FRAUD- Our local paper
even did a feature on this about a month ago(teaching idiots how its done basically!). In this case lets say the Superbird was insured for $500,000 but todays value is $250,000... need I say more? Allot of guys bought cars with a mortgage attched and just like the housing market many are in upside down.
If it's legit, I've had my share of  :screwy: customers too! Hope they nail the s.o.b!

It's a shame to lose more of these rare musclecars! I hope the responsible person(s) are found and convicted!
I know a few people who bought cars using the equity in their houses. Ouch!

You know whats strange about this? I just spent 20 minutes trying to find an article from local Kentucky newspapers and couldn't find diddly squat. I can't find Harnettsburgh KY on yahoo maps or the resto shop in the yellow pages. This story came straight from Mopar Collectors Guide, but where did it come from originally? Has anyone else been able to find out anything else about this? I would like to see a full list of the cars detroyed (I really wouldn't, but I do, you know what I mean). Anyone? Anyone?

The shop is located in Hardinsburg Ky. There is a thread on Moparts about it. If you go on Moparts, you can do a search for Mike French of Thunder Road. I know there was a v code Bird, a triple black sunroof R/T-SE 69 Charger, 63 Max Wedge, 70 FC7 v code roadrunner vert, 70 Challenger vert and serveral more cars too. It just makes me sick to think about it. I might drive up there this weekend to have a look. It's about an hour from my house. If I do I'll try and snap some pics.

Ouch!!! :faint:  That really sucks so many rare cars were involved and if it does turn out to be arson, the culprits involved should be punished to the full extent of their crime. :villagers:

:iagree: :iagree:

This was my initial thought as well but since other members vouched for these guys I didnt say anything. That aside it makes perfect since if the person(s) was broke and desperate. It seems odd to me that no other cars were involved besides the owners cars. A good example is my own car. I have an agreed value insurance policy worth 35k on my 72 Cuda. Now we all know that a nice driver quality Cuda of my year wont bring close to that in this market. The point is my car is worth more destroyed than it is being sold. Its sad, I'd never do it, but its true. :walkaway:

Inside job.  One of the three are behiend it.  There are more than just cars to be reconciled.  Building, tools, equipment, some most likely was state of the art.  While the cars are worth a lot of money you have to figure on what do they have wraped up in those cars such as did they come into possession of them in the 80's meaning they dont have but very little invested ect.  If the police and other law enforcement do their job they will conclude that it is fraud.  No I dont know these guys, I just know how the real world works and the chances of it being someone other than one of the three are slim if it has in fact been deduced to arson   :2cents:

I was thinking fraud at first also but when you think about the fact if they get caught or the claim doesn't go through for some reason, it's a lot to lose.....

Wasn't there a Superbird on Ebay a while a go that was burnt?  I rember a member saying how the heat actually warps all the metal and it's very difficult to repair even though the metal looks intact....

Do you think..... :misbehaving:

:sly: Weird how there were no customer cars damaged......  :dunno:

From what I know...the cars or anything in the building was NOT insured.

If thats the case then I feel truely sorry for those guys, however that would make them the biggest idiots alive to have a business and rare cars with no insurance. I own a small independent repair shop and I have a 1 million dollar policy that cost less than 2k a year to maintain. My Cuda is covered for 10k+ more than its worth for $232.00 a year.  Again you would have to be a moron and irresponsible not to have your business and collectables covered. :screwy: :nono: Something smells fishy here!!! :dunno:
