Vehicle Registry
« on: April 14, 2002 - 01:47:51 PM »
I am relativley new to the site. I have been going back through some of the old messages but have not found anything about a site registry. I know I have always been curious about how many of the ebodys have survived the ravage of time. There are some sites that have a registry specific to a model and some do not post any of the results.
I think it would be interesting to see how many cars with certain options are still in exisitence. The categories could be set out for example as engine, transmission and model. Nothing too fancy.
Some of the information that would be needed to verify that the car being posted is in fact a real car should be kept confidential. The other info would be accessible to the public such as colour.
Just some thoughts and ideas.

I would be willing to help with a project like this...

But I would like to do it with a nice break down of everything... colors, dispacement, options, etc, etc...

It wouldn't be too hard to build the database, we'd just need to get people to use it...

I'm not sure we could do it on this site... but I may have some sources I could use...

I guess we could start by deciding what kind of information we would need to collect.  Anyone have any ideas?

Make, Model, Style, Engine, Trans, Gears, Exterior Color, Interior Color, option codes, etc?

We would probably have to have snapshots of fender tags to verify the cars...  car shots too...

Sounds like you have been giving this a lot of thought. The snap shot of the fender tag is a good idea for verification. I was at the Seattle show a couple of weeks ago and Galen was going around taking pictures of fender tags to add to his registry. But he doesn't have personal info by doing this.

Maybe a survey of the guys and dolls here will help. Like what type of information would we like to see published ie the number of r/t's in the data base. Other information could be published ie options. I am not in favour of personal info like name etc being given out.

Ya, I agree... No personal info would need to be given out.  I doubt any would really have to be taken.

It would be nice, however, to get locations on the cars..  like at least  city, state/province.

We have the ideas. Do we have the technology? Where and how do we start? Can any one help?

Hey Grrreen I saw your car in the latest Northern Mopars newsletter. What I could see looked pretty d**m good. Looking forward to August at COP and close up look.

I have the technology... We just have to decide how we want to break down all of the information.

Then we just build a way for people to enter info into it. I'm a Web designer/programmer, so I can do most of it.  It just needs to be planned properly.

Thanks for the compliment!  :D  It's also up there on the Northern Mopars site too, in the Didsbury photos.

I was planning to go to Three Hills too, but I'm having some disk brake problems.  Not the kind of thing you want to ignore...  ::)  But I will definitely be at COP!!

I think you guys have a great idea about the reg.
most sites I have seen want cash for info or exclude all us poor saps that don't have concours quality numbers matching hemi/6 packcars. a site for the common guy to see how his car fits into the cast of survivors would BE GREAT!

Cash??  I think that's kinda sad...

Yeah, anything we make I think has to be opened up to everyone...  I would like to see how my car fits into things too...  ;D

But since it is open, we would definitely have to verify the cars exist with photos of fender tags and the cars before they could go into the registry...

I agree with the verification process. I am formulating some ideas about the information to gather and how we could present it. There would be no vin numbers or owner's personal info displayed.
Any other ideas?

you could have 2 or 3 levels of verification
I think some people (especially younger ones(my son included)) won't take the time to take pics of the tag, but would still register online if it were easy. not much info at this level.  name, address, (house and email) model, year,  & vin  This could give leads on where potential projects may be lying around.  2nd level would be photo verified, and 3rd verified in person by trusted people, clubs, shows etc  The reg info numbers could show something like:   1 of 200:153: 56  in order of verification with a valid email account the first levels could get notified every 6 months or year to upgrade (the most over used term of this century) their status of if someone trusted see's one of these cars they could verify.  hate to see any leads on rare cars go unnoticed cause the people that own them don't care as much as we do

That sounds like quite a good system...

Though it would be nice if everyone took pics of their tags, I doubt it will always happen, so this would definitely be a good way around that problem.

Well I have been playing with various ideas for the vehicle registry of survivors. I am posting my proposal for comments/ suggestions.

Grrreen are the two levels that I have indicated for publication feasible? Can we click on a particular Model and Style for the second level breakdown of the cars in that category or would we have to show the entire second level?

There is an attachment (paper clip in heading) that has to be clicked on to view the proposed registry.
