I've had one mounted on the right side of the tranny hump next to the console since we first went racing.  Glad you had yours.  Glad the engine was not running so it didn't pull the crap into the carb.  (You can never get it all out) and glad you all and the car are ok!

wow, glad your ok...    make sure you have a CO2 extinguisher in the car , that way you won`t have more damage than caused by the fire itself.   :2cents:

Glad it wasn`t worse , good thing you had a fire extinguisher
look for a fuel leak near the alt or dist , a stray spark from either could have set it off

i would give the engine bay another bath with the hose and some pressure like Barry suggested, that stuff can get into places and slowly eat its way through everything.  It is not hard to wash it again and clean like he said too.

And i agree, it does sound like a faulty fuel line somewhere near the dizzy like Neil said :2thumbs:

That's both a sad sight, and a good sight.
I'm glad the damages were as limited as they were, no doubt thanks to your quick reaction with the extinguisher.

I have a couple of powder mini-extinguishers, but after seeing this, I'm buying a CO2 extinguisher today:eek7:

Quick thinking  + quick action =  :2thumbs: Glad to see you got it under control and as has been noted, two saving factors were the killed engine and the extinguisher !   :clapping:

Every car with a Holley carb should have a fire extinguisher  :2thumbs:

I've been using Holleys for over 35 years and never had a fire! Am I doing something wrong?  :clueless:

Glad you were able to act quick and minimize the damage!

Sorry to hear that happened to you, Dan.  On the other hand, it was good you had an extinguisher handy and were able to get it under control quick enough to avoid anymore damage.  Ever since I've owned my Stealth, I've kept two extinguishers in the car with me...Granted, they're the cheapo ones, but I think I'll look into getting a CO2-filled one to minimize any ill effects, should I ever need to use one (hopefully I never do, but you never know).

Glad you're ok and that the damage wasn't that extensive.

It is a bummer though.  :-\

BTW, nice valve covers!

It lives  :D. Today I bought a new distributor and fuel line, cleaned the air filter, and soldered a bit. I set the timing while getting shocked and it runs. I took it out for a test drive and it was running great, until a nice tight turn when it suddenly backfired a lot for a second then died, which is so much fun when your power steering and brakes. So I was stranded for ten minutes until my tools came, I swapped my old ignition back on and all was good. I think I fried my Summit ignition.
