Hello fom Bakersfield, CA
« on: May 27, 2009 - 11:48:59 PM »
Hello All, I have been lurking around finding loads of good info on this site.  I only wish I would have found it earlier.  I have a 71 Challenger R/T, original 383, now with a 440.  I have had it a little over a year.  It is originally green and the previous owner painted it white.  I think they were a vanishing point fan (nothing wrong with that).   I bought it thinking that it was going to be an easy/fun project, LOL.  Who would have known that Murphy got a hold of it?  Some of the body work is going to need to be redone some day, but I want to get it back together so I can drive it.  It is about an 8-10’, so don’t get too close!  Anyway, I have redone the rear and front end, changing the open rear to a 3.55 sure grip.  Just had the 727 tranny rebuilt and a shift kit put in it and the 440 is in the shop being rebuilt right now.  I am currently TRYING to put the interior in and having fun with that, ha!  The rallye cluster was pulled and a standard dash was put in???? and now it has a 72 style gauge assembly with it???  Lots of work, but a learning experience as this is the first project that I have ever taken on.  Thanks for all the great info out there!  Keep it coming!
Jason

Welcome,  very nice looking car.  I'm not too far from you, in Chico CA.  Show us more pics when you have a chance.  All of these cars have surprises/ issues but the real fun is driving them and sharing the mopar experience.  Enjoy.

"usraptr" = United States raptor - bird of prey = United States Bald Eagle.  FYI, somebody else thought of it first so I had to drop the "O" in raptor.

Welcome.  Yo have a good looking Challenger.  If you don't mind a little drive, think about coming up to the Mopar Alley car show in Fremont on June 7.

Welcome to the site from San Diego.  That's a pretty nice project you have - I'd take a 10-foot paint job any day of the week.  :icon16:

Always nice to have another Cali person onsite.  I am in the Inland Empire about two hours south of you.

Very nice looking Challenger.  If you have any question ask, there is a wealth of information on here.

Thanks everyone for the kind welcomes and good words.  Unfortunately, these are the only 2 pics I have ever taken of the car other than some of the wiring, front end, etc..  I have to admit, it is satisfying when something is completed.  I then know that I am that much closer.  I try and do at least one thing every couple days, but then life gets in the way.  Anyway, see you around.

Good looking car...

8-10 foot paint is better than 100 yards paint.  I have primer body, read doors, black primer fenders and red header panel and front valance.

Cool ride and I can't wait until my car is all one color.
