73 Cuda restomod 96706
« on: May 29, 2009 - 05:16:57 AM »
Aloha, My name is Steve and this restoration will be for my two sons Ethan 31/2 & Logan almost 2. I brought the Cuda home and the first thing they asked was why i didnt get a blue one. So here starts the beginning of Project restomod. Got the car 2 weeks ago and next thing i know i went crazy and ripped the interior out looking for the build sheet. Previous owners were going to race her so they ran all wiring in the fenders and pulled all electronics under the dash, talk about a mess. also battery was installed in the trunk and wires were run along the frame rails and through a hole in drivers floorpan.
Game Plan: get all wiring and amenities in the right places, get all wiring splices removed and solder all joints, try to get all components in and on the dash working, clean up the engine bay and 440, eventually as money becomes available pick up 2 new fenders new roof skin and Quarters and maybe door skin. gonna take her back to original Blue heres some starter pics

Looks like you got a real good start on it.  Have fun with it.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

Turned my spare room in backyard into a temp paint booth seems to work ok. been doing alot of welding filling extra holes and small patches

Great color, and great progress.
Just a suggestion:  I would move the electric fuel pump away from the ignition coil.

Thanks for the motivation. I get about 2 hours a day between the kids fighting and playing and dinner so shes getting thier slowly but surely. yuppers that regulator is gonna get moved that why i named that pic gotta move LOL keeps me on track. Got my portable sand blaster from harbor freight that things awesome but makes a big mess.
gonna try to finish interior floors this week (last hole in drivers floor pan) then doors and door jams next weekend when my new HVLP guns arrive. gonna miss my old suction feed gun which still works great as you can see in the pics. also i am heading out to tucson for work from the 12 of july to the 18th if anyone knows of any great piles of cudas (yeah right) in the salvage yards out thier lemme know i just need a few brackets for engine bay ( overflow bottle is one) and maybe some A pillars and other small items. The color is Subaru World Rally Blue and my son picked it out. we went to checkers and parked next to us was a wrx? sti? anyway he liked the color so went to the paint guy and he said it was a popular color. so WRB it is. Update: Finished doing the clock conversion today. works great! and finished the RTE Tach conversion also works like a champ, very easy conversion and great instructions from  RTE. also did the solid state dash cluster regulator  $2.50 in parts from radio shack and its a solid 4.99 volts, ended up just using cluster as the heatsink, all gauges seem to like the voltage so im gonna start putting gauge cluster back together
