Leaking fuel line

I have a leaking fuel line to my Holley 4150 750 cfm carburator.
The fuel line is a Mr. Gasket 1552.


It's leaking from under the nut, i.e.the fuel doesn't come out via the threads, but follows the line itself. I got a tip, to use silicone where the coned end of the fuel line mates with the carb, i.e inside the fuel-inlet nut. I did that, and now the silicone is curing. 

Just wondering if this is a common problem, and if my approach to this problem is a good one or not?

You shouldn't need anything to seal a flared fitting.  Try repositioning/rock the flare while you finger tighten it to feel it sit flat.

Small nick in one of the flares maybe...? you shouldn't need any silicone..

Tried several times to reposition it, no luck. Tried to use the fuel-inlet nut that came with the fuel line, but that was a total disaster. It didn't leak a little, it leaked a lot.
So I went back to use the Holley fuel-inlet nuts. Did also try teflon tape, but it dissolved fast.
Always the same line leaking, the one closest to the firewall.


So at the moment, I'm hoping the black RTV silicone helps.

I did also notice that there was something peeling off the insides of the fuel line, used a small flat screwdriver to scrape it out. I'm not too impressed by the Mr. Gasket fuel lines.



Anyone who can recommend me a good fuel line brand?
This isn't something I want permanently on my car.

Just a note, black RTV won't hold up to gas for very long.

 Silicone & fuel do not mix , the silicone will break down & get everywhere
those Cheap lines need to be banned none of them work since they are made in China , you are better off using brass fittings & some hose to make a line that way

Oh well, at least I know of a place I can get decent brass fittings. They also got Goodridge fittings, maybe try that?

Can only hope the RTV will hold up until they opens at tuesday.

I also hope that whoever's responsible for letting these crap fuel lines on the market will wake up to find out the gnomes have had their theet drilled and filled with aluminum foil while they slept.

Flare type fittings will leak out the back where the tube passes through the nut before it will leak from the threads, but I still see people using teflon tape and silicone.

I have seen teflon tape used and the main cause of a lot of problems when people put there fuel lines together... it has a nasty habbit of coming undone and traveling the fuel line into what ever area it can block up first, do not use tapes or silicons, big no no.

Teflon tape will have no effect on Flare fittings

  w- CP. Most of these (I've seen) leak because there is chrome on the sealing surface of the tapered seat of the tube or the tube doesn't locate square to the nut/fitting. Make sure that the tube seat inside the carb didn't get messed up as well.

At the moment, I don't even dare to just start the Chally to look for leaks, because now I'm worried about getting bits of silicone floating around inside the fuel bowls. It won't be fired up before there's a proper non-leaking fuel line on it.
