What color should I paint my Challenger?
« on: June 01, 2009 - 06:45:22 AM »
 :clueless:

I am considering colors for my Challenger - and dare I say, non-original. (Don't hit me with the Mopar rule book please) LOL
My car was originally ew1 - white, with white interior, black vinyl roof.
There's no fun in white, and to be honest, i want to show off the bodywork.
I am thinking about going red, but not ev2 red.

your .02cents would mean a lot. What color would you think would tip the scale?

I dig Ferrari reds for MANY reasons: Rubino Rosso or Rosso Barchetta. Ferrari (blood red) originating from 1956
It has a little orange in it, and a little brown, making it a  far richer color than maroon.

Probably not the best pic, but an OK example.

I also like the new Camaro poppy red.
I  dig the Mopar Butterscotch.
I like the Ford mustang "Gulf" orange (yellow orange)

Black is cool, but too worrisome.
Charcoal grey is nice, but I want a single uniform color, just in case of an (dare I say "accident" )
It's a pain in the neck to respray.

I don't want Green, Blue or purple. Sublime is the only way to go green, but in my opinion it looks better on the 70 & 71. I guess all of the hi impact colors work best on those years for a reason..

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Best,

Dan

One of the reds on the new Chargers is very nice. I think it's PR4 or PR5 Performance red.
I have a gallon of basecoat that I've been saving for a future project. I bought it to paint my 69 Daytona clone but then decided to keep the car black. I'm still kind of wishing that I had painted it red.
There are several reds that are very clean looking. My suggestion to you is to do a sprayout panel before committing to a color. I always do a spray out panel for my customers and have them sign it. I've had situations where they chose a color and then didn't like it once they saw it on the car. That won't happen again.
My 71 Cuda is Tornado red which is a Porsche color. Not too bright...not too dark.

I like butterscotch with some black accents.
If I had a stripped car I'd go that way.
Here are a couple of pics, not Challengers but the colour.
Another really cool colour was one I saw only once on a friends Hemi Cuda up here, it's a gold/green really cool love it, can't remember the name but one of my favs.

Mines still in its original color GK6 dark Autumn Bronze and I really like it. I also have owned a B5 Blue and a Winchester Grey one. There are too many B5 blues out there for my taste now, but I did like the grey.

Hard to go wrong with red, but I would go butterscotch. Looks good and you don't see yourself coming and going, even at a Mopar show.

I like Butterscotch too. However, have you maybe considered doing a B5 Blue or something? :)
