Im losing a very important Mopar Man in my life
« on: June 03, 2009 - 12:09:42 PM »
My uncle is 69 and not doing well in the hospital with cancer taking over his body. I got my Challenger from him 8 or so years ago a few days after he got it for the same price he paid, got my 67 Coronet from him as well as my 78 D150.

Hes got a 65 Chrysler 300L and a 37 Dodge coupe, hes always been a great person who loves the junkyard and has had a slew of cool cars. Just bought a new trailer 2 weeks ago. It was really hard to see him, unable to really communicate in bed. I am truly going to miss him.

I just thought Id pay him some respect with my friends.  :sadwavey:

That's sad to hear.  I have lost close relatives and it really gets tough.  Maybe you can do something before he goes that shows how much he means to you; vanity plate with his name, or put his name on the back of your challenger, or maybe on the dash.

He obviously has influenced your life beyond cars. The age of 69 is not "old" but he has had a good lengthy life (I'll be 63 this month) in one regard. Just tell him (I'm sure you already have) how much he has met to you, he may not be able to respond the way he'd like but I would think your sincere words will be a comfort to him. We share your difficult and painful time in ths moment.    :sadwavey:

Thanks for your thoughts everyone. You know how it goes, you wish you would have seen someone more often and let them know how you really felt. I'll just have to hope now that he knew. I really wish i could have at least interacted with him in his last days of communication, i just didnt know how serious it was until it was too late. I was thinking of doing some sort of sticker or something.  :walkaway: I've been really bummed, its been a while since i've been effected by something like this, and he hasn't even passed yet. I suppose it was seeing him in the state he was.  :(

I watched cancer slowly chip away at my grandfather over the course of a year. Sorry to hear this Shawn, my thoughts and prayers go out to him and your family.

My dad is fighting cancer as well, but he is doing OK so far.

Hang in there, no one warmly remembered is ever "gone" completely. Spend as much time with him as you can.

Hey Wally I have an Uncle who is 72 and is suffering similarly.  I go to feed him twice a week and am thankful for the time to do it.  He and I have been close as you two have been.

Since you two enjoyed a common interest, I can assure you that he knows how much you care.  You know, us guys normally don't need to verify it verbally.

If you're looking for something to do for him, make physical contact and talk to him when you visit.  Something as simply as holding his hand and telling him what you did for the day.  I believe these two easy gestures go a long way.

God Bless you.
