Added 1.6 roller rockers.. question
« on: June 03, 2009 - 01:14:24 PM »
Hi, I just installed 1.6 rockers.. and it def increased the cam specs.. sounds SWEET. However, it sounds like I have to do some additional adustments. Has anyone adjusted the valves w/ the valve4 cover off?? It just seems it would make life easier.. less the mess.

What sort of "sounds"? I do one side at a time and run it in between to keep the temps in teh heads up. I dont think you'll have a good time trying to kep an Allen wrench in the adjuster while it's moving up and down... Might be fun to try, but lots of oil all over the place and next to impossible...

When i took the valve cover off the tap went away.. I would think it would get louder. The rocker may be hitting the breather baffle underneath. btw - not alot of oil splashing around.

What kind of 1.6 rollers are you using? I have Cranes and its not hard to get the shafts upside down if you dont watch it. Sounds to me if the tap went away you probably do have a rocker hitting something. I agree with Stroker, would be kind of a challenge to lash the rockers while they are moving. Can you see any marks on the rocker or valve cover where contact might be happening? I also got it from a reliable source that the Crane gold rockers in the 1.6 ratio are actually 1.65.

As mentioned, look for rocker contact on underside of valve covers.  When I installed adjustable rockers on my 340 after milling the heads, the rocker adjusters were hitting the valve covers.
May need taller aftermarket valve covers or...

On my 340, the rocker arm adjusters were hitting the valve covers because probably needed shorter pushrods after all the head milling.  So the correct fix was not changing valve covers.

I have measured Crane's aluminum and iron rocker's on an engine (big block).  The 1.5's were 1.6 and the 1.6's were 1.7.  Isky's were as advertised.

I am running 1.6 and have ran 1.7 rockers and on the cheap chrome tin covers they will hit the baffles - I took the baffles out all together and haven't had any problems in 2 years (trying to dimple them to clear just breaks them any way

Yes, you are correct. They were hitting the baffles.. so I took them off and all is good. New problem is the 650 demon vacuum secondaries.. quads not opening and changed all the spings in kit.
