72-74 Cuda Repo Grille
« on: June 04, 2009 - 11:22:05 AM »
Hey Guys,
I am having trouble getting my Grille to fit, it seems as though it is too short. Does anyone have an original they can measure the length and let me know.
Thanks
Mark

The only 72-74 repro grille that I know of being repopped is those cast grilles. They are copies of an original but casting a part means major shrinkage. I've never found a cast grille that fits very well. The bad thing is they continue to shrink and warp. If you manage to get it to fit, you should never set the car in the sun. Bad things happen. I truly hope you have better luck than others have had.

Thanks Hotrod, Here is the link to the person I bought it from. I don't know if they are cast or not. Would you happen to have picture of the Grille and headlight bezel area one a 72-74? Is there any gap between the fender and the bezel or is it flush?

this product is produced from a plastic currently being used in the automotive industry

Well, that could be just about anything

My '72 grille is a good original one as are the bezels and the pass. fender is NOS but there is a bit of a gap between the bezel and the fender that I can't close (and the fenders line up with the hood and header panel so it's not that distance that's wrong).

On the driver's side which is the same save for an original used fender there is no gap !?

I'm assuming it's just another example of that legendary Chrysler build quality.

The 70 grilles always seem to fit pretty decent, but the 71 and 72-74 grilles always had a gap on each side and not an even gap. I've looked at several original unrestored cars and they all had issues with grille fit. There's no way to adjust for it other than cutting and reworking the grille.

My body guy is going to cut the grill and try to rework it. I know he can do majic but this may take merlin. Looks like my fish will get a nose job. As you can see from the pictures, this is not even close.

Since my grille is out of the car and easily accessible, I measured 64 3/4".

Thanks, No it is a modern color called Stormy Blue Mica. Send me an e-mail with some pics of the grille and let me know what you want for it. Is it brittle? markastephens@earthlink.net

Isnt there a filler piece between the bumper and grille that goes there? or is that just 73 and 74?

The filler piece is just for 73-74 and it goes between the leading edge of the grille and the bumper. The issue here is how short the grill is, notice the gap between the headlight bucket and the fender.

Heres a pic of my 73 , some gap but not as wide as yours. Rich.
Oh yea it's an old grille, not repro.

Wow, that does seem a bit wide.  :(
