Carter AFB help needed!!! brake booster line...
« on: June 04, 2009 - 03:42:34 PM »
Ok, so I mentioned I was swapping my 318 to a Streetmaster intake and a Carter 625 AFB. My problem is that the brake booster vacuum tree location on the Streetmaster is going to interfere with my throttle and kickdown linkage!  :swear:

So I need to route my brake booster vacuum line somewhere else. Can I use the port at the back of the carb for this? I can tee off the booster line at the booster for my AC/heater line later, but I need the brakes to work. This look right to anyone?

It actually hooks up to the back of the intake not the carb. It is not neccessary to hook it to the carb

Yes, I know, normally it hooks to the intake and not the carb. But as you can see the with the vac line hooked up on this particular application its going to go right through the linkage, that's not going to work. What I'd like to know is if I can hook it to the rear carb port and have it work, if I hook it to the intake the line is going to rub on my throttle and kickdown linkage.

Nevermind, I think I figured it out. I went back to the bag 'o parts I got with the manifold and found this attached to the old vacuum tree. The tree is different so I didn't even think about it and just realized it had a 90* adaptor on it. Instructions would make this whole deal a might easier...

Very good. So you have 3 choices now

90 degree
back of carb---will work
drill and tap a port on the back of the intake

Yup, the 90* fitting works fine.  ;D If I'd had thought about it before I put the manifold on drilling and tapping a different location would have been the cleaner way to go, but now that the manifold's on I think I'm just gonna leave it alone! As always, thanks for the help!  :2thumbs:
