Why not try doing some research before you make statements like that. Sorry for my bluntness, but I get tired of people who think things are impossible without looking at facts.

"The PAC-Car II set a new world record in fuel efficient driving during the Shell Eco-marathon in Ladoux (France) on June 26, 2005. Running on hydrogen, the PAC-Car II achieved the equivalent of 5,385 km per liter of gasoline (12,666 MPG!) "
Yes but how efficient would that be in a 3,800 lb 4 door sedan with a family of 4 going on vacation?  That's real world, not a hydrogen powered 100 lb nothing.  Science is great, but it also has to be practical.

If they try they can come up with better fuel mileage on these cars.  I really think they have set on fuel mileage for a long time with all that has been done I know they could incorperate new things to get the mileage up to 50mpg or better if they want to do it.  I am glad that they are continueing the challenger maybe I can get one some day.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

The biggest problem is it's all about the person behind the wheel.  You can rate a car at 50 MPG, but if the driver doesn't drive sensibly, then they might only get 25-30 MPG.  Heck, a Prius driven in every day traffic in the real world will still only return about 60% of the rated mileage.

All step-change science starts out as impractical.  The theories are refined and improved.  The principles become a balance between effectiveness and manufacturability.

I hope the world can make huge strides away from fossil fuel consumption, and I believe it will happen.  My biggest concern is that I don't think the U.S. will be any part of the innovating.

We're on the verge of becoming a nation of consumers with little to offer the rest of the world in trade.
