Looks back in line now.
94% want laws loosened
6% want more restrictions.
P.G.
Personally, I don't mind that you have to go through a hassle to get a pistol permit here in NY (I assume it is a PITA everywhere as well). I don't think any laws need to be loosened, but the restrictions the gov't are trying to set into place are just ridiculous. The gov't has a sneaky way of making things sound different from what they actually mean. Right now there is a bill on the table that would outlaw any pistols that have a trigger that could possibly be pulled by a child. That would outlaw pretty much every handgun out there. If a person does not have the common sense to use a trigger lock with young children in the home, they should not be allowed to keep their children either. There is another bill on the table that would require pistol permit holders to renew their permits every five years. I don't see a problem with this. We have to renew our driver's licenses and take an eye exam, why shouldn't we have our criminal record (or lack there of) rechecked. This bill could take guns out of the hands of dangerous people who already had a permit before they committed a crime, like the man who went on a shooting spree at an immigration office in Binghamton, NY just last month. I don't mind adding some restrictions as long as they are reasonable and not just a PLOY to make it impossible for the honest, hardworking, law abiding citizen to own a handgun for target and/or personal protection.
