How Many Convertibles?

The wedges prevent the door and top of the quarter from pinching together whenever the body flexes. I saw a fresh vert at the nationals a few years back and the top of the door and quarter had pinched together and messed it up. I rebuilt my wedges with springs I got from my local Ace Hardwear.

So -- what's a fair price to pay for a new top (actually, I'd prefer to just put on a Legendary to replace the one that is messed up on mine (new - but was put on wrong).   So -- what's reasonable for the labor cost to install a top?

My friend paid for a new cloth type top installed on his Dodge Shadow. For the top and well vinyl, all installed for $750. I was surprised that it cost so much  I saw them do one on Power Block and it looked like a lot of work

Conv. top price. Just to give an idea here 'cause Canadian prices are ridiculous. My last one was installed on May 28. 1997. Top, back window, pads(?) & installation was $1,000.00 ($1,150.00cdn with taxes).

Years ago when I had a 71 challenger convertible Vs. the sunroof car I have now, I had the top replaced at a shop in plainfield or claremont NH (I think it was). Very reasonable price and while they were recovering the driver seat they told be they found a broken frame and welded it to fix it. They told me this when I picked it up and thought  oh great whats this going to add to the price. $20.00! what a deal. they were great to deal with. did the work in a garage at their log cabin home. You might want to see if they still are around. Good luck.

Thanks Wman -- I'll see if I can find him.      The reason I am inquiring about cost - there is a local car restoration (upholstry) guy here that does terrific work (on very high - end cars) -- he wants $2500 for a new top/window.   Another shop quoted me $1750......    Both are more than I want to spend....

I figure about 8 plus hours labor plus the cost of the top/pads and assuming no framework.    Does that sound about right?

That seems like an aweful lot of money.  The last one I had done cost me $400 in labor plus the top which I supplied.  It took them less than a day.

Local shop near me quoted $1500 just to install the new top I would be supplying. Got the number of the guy that worked for him and he said he could do it on the side for $400-$500. I was under a schedule at the time so I and another friend installed it ourselves.....Took a day and a half and alot of flustrating patience.

My most recent quote was from a 'top end' ebody restoration guy: $2300.00.  Doubtful I'll be going there.

Sometime, companies jack the price up on a job that they'd rather not do...
