« on: June 09, 2009 - 10:48:08 PM »
I just did an HEI conversion on my 318. I need to know where to find a hot lead. I thought I had one at the old coil hot lead but that didn't work, I don't know why, but regardless I am tring to remove the old orange box exc. Where would I find the hot - to from the key to attach to. Everything I am finding shuts off as you turn the key. I REALLY NEED HELP! I need to get the car running by tomarrow!!

Almost. I need one for an HEI. The top one is the one I had. I tried to splice into the wire marked "Existing Wire" that goes to the resister. I tapped in at the plug before the ballest. But when I put a light on it and hit the key, the light goes out. What am I doing wrong, or where should I be tapping in.

I guess, It is for a dodge 318. What I have to do is find the hot lead off of the keyed switch in order to make this work. It is like the mallory.

You are getting me closer then I have been. This one is just like a GM. It has the coil on the top of the dist. cap. It is an all in one Dist.

So I only have to find a hot lead from the switch to plug into this little bad boy and it should run. Everything I have found in the old system goes dead as the engine cranks.

So do you need to splice the wires that by pass the ballast resistor in the crank position to the one that runs thru the ballast resistor in the "run" position?

I need to find a hot lead that works on the key, and doesn't turn off when the starter is turning. I checked the Leads on the ballest but they turn off as the starter is turning. Then come back on when you let off the key. Is that right?

Blue 12 V feed wire that feeds the ballast , you also need power while cranking so you have to tie in the brown wire at the ballast to start it

Went out this morning before work and did the wiring. It worked, But I am still getting no spark. I checked the line and it is hot with the key one and on start but Why would I still not be getting a spark? That should have fixed the problem.

could be a bad module , they go all the time or the coil could be bad or the rotor could have burned through the center & be arcing to the shaft , all of these are common problems with HEI
