'04 Neon VS '65 Belvedere
« on: June 12, 2009 - 09:28:16 PM »
This (street) drag race is fun to watch. A 2004 Dodge Neon SRT-4 VS a 1965 Plymouth Belvedere 383 4-speed.

That was cool.  Not too bad for the SRT-4.  No replacement for displacement.

IMO, and I know this will probably offend some people, a neon is the same as a ricer. (don't kill me!)

Thread ressurection...As the resident ricer, I am offended. :P

I would have loved to race that Belvedere in my SRT-4...and eventually the Cuda.

Agreed. I would gladly take a shot at the Plymouth. I don't consider the Neon to be a ricer at all. Neon folks are much different than the Honda guys...trust me. I'm still more of a muscle car guy, but I love my SRT. Yeah it's a four banger, but it also makes over 300lbs. of torque to the wheels.

Yes, the eclipse and dodge avenger both used a version of the neon's 2.0 dohc from 95-99. The upper half of the engine is configured different since it is pointed in the opposite direction.

I'm pretty sure the SRT-4 engine is completely different than the old Mistubishi engines in the Avenger.  The SRT engine is all Chrysler.  It was used in the Neon SRT-4, PT Cruiser turbo and the Caliber SRT-4.

FWD Mopars are a strainge breed.  The muscle car guys in general hate them and the import guys don't respect them either.

I have an Srt-4.........and I love it. I bought it in 2006 when I was still in college, At the time I paid 15k for it, it had 7k miles and a 70k/7yr warranty left on it. Here I am years later, never had to use the warranty, never had any serious problems with it, it has been a great car!

Neons need a beefed up 340 and a full roll cage and a 4 link installed and some meats to make them sweet little cars. :burnout:

Not when you can throw slicks on it and run 11's in the quarter. Get done racing and throw the slicks in the trunk and drive home with the air on getting 28mpg to boot. Hands down the most reliable car I've ever owned. Don't get me wrong I'm a V-8 guy through and through, but I have really enjoyed owning this little beast.

The SRT 4 motor is not the same as the Mits. In my house there are two SRT4 Neons both 2004s. The bone stock SRT 4 Neon runs 13.6 on stock tires and stock everything. My 2004 SRT 4 has run in the high 11s with slicks and yes you drive it there and back to the drag strip. I know my SRT4 with the 256 AGP Turbo has tons of power when racing from a roll like in the Video. I destroyed an EVO one day from a third gear roll on the Hwy. Pull him like he was standing still. I also have Muscle Cars and my SRT 4 Neon is far slower in the quarter mile than my Challenger with the Hemi.

Cool video...   :2thumbs: Props to the neon, it runs pretty well.  BUT that ole 383 Plymouth really rolled on out....    :burnout:
