Pulled Over
« on: June 14, 2009 - 02:45:16 AM »
Got pulled over today while driving the 66 Charger, the polite young man (I'm 37, he looked about 16)told me he pulled me over because, get this, I had no front plate.  :dupe:  I calmly told him "this is number 5 of 5 classic cars that I have with collector plates and that there are no front plates issued".
He went to his Charger, presumably to check with who ever cops check with, comes back, hands me my liscense and says "have a nice day "
I think I'll put front plates on the front that says "I don't need a front plate" so as to avoid anymore hassle from "the man" :roflsmiley:

Good one  :2thumbs:  I was pulled over right after I got my 1970 440/6 and was out trying it out a little bit.  A cop was setting where I did not exspect with someone else pulled over.  I was going sideways in a s curve and he was at the end of it.  He pulled me over and said this is not the place to do that.  Being just a little cocky at the time I asked him where I could do that and he calmly said at the drag strip.  Said dont do that again and I said ok and went on my way.  Was stopped several times in it but never got a ticket out of it.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

What state are you in? Most southron states have rear plates only.

Every time I take my red Challenger out for a cruise, I worry that I'm going to get pulled over for no front plate, since they're required here in Ohio.  Apparently, my front valance is an aftermarket replacement because it has no holes to mount the bracket and I just can't seem to talk myself into drilling holes through new paint.

The only reason I am aware of that any state requires front plates is so that they can nail you with red light and speeding cameras. The cameras can always be set up to take the shot from the rear, but then they don't know who was driving. Ya gotta love "virtual" cops. :sly:

The front license plate mounts to a bracket that is bolted onto the inside of the bumper.  There are no mount holes in the valance.

On the 70-71 challengers, the bracket mounts to the front valance panel by two holes at the top of the valance and two holes through the front of the valance.  Apparently, the later years must be different.  My purple R/T SE has the original valance and bracket, so the valance on my red R/T SE is probably either an aftermarket or from a 72-74 challenger.

Virginia (being a southern state) requires both front and rear plates. North Carolina a border state to our south only requires a rear plate. Don't know the reasoning. To avoid any cop problems I have both the front & rear antique plates mounted on my '74 Challenger even though it's not req'd due to the different antique law reqirements.
