Seriously, unless you want to put your engine bay back to factory correct, don't let this bother you. Drive your car and have fun. That's what I do. I have chrome after-market parts. Electronic ignition that wasn't to be had in a 70. So what?? I don't care if I'm not correct...I just know it looks good and runs like h@ll.    :burnout:

This car show stuff judging means nothing to me, but maybe it does to you? I guess that is my question...Do you want to impress judges, or have the engine bay look like what you want?

The car looks sweet Brandon. :2thumbs: I think some great pointers have already been made and nothing too expensive. I do a lot of judging and one thing that sets a car off from others is it simply being clean. The valve covers look fine. If you wanted more of a factory look, try a nice duel horn air breather or get a set of the black wrinkle valve covers to match the air breather. The valve covers are a little expensive if you're on a budget. I just got a set of the factory correct plastic under-the-hood clips (for wiring runs ect) for $14.00 bucks. That helps clean it up. The wire looms as Barry mentioned will also help for a little chump change. I think for $200 bucks you can do a lot to bring your score up. Take a look in the engine bay pics thread and take note of some of the small things you're missing & make the improvements!! Good luck. You've got a great car!! :bananasmi

Maybe hide the wire for the amplifier a little better.  I have one in my bay and it is hardly noticeable.

Tom

I just used some black tape to hide it a bit.

I think mabey you guys are getting the wrong idea about what im trying to do here. I am NOT concearned with originality, My car was originally a 318 SE, i have R/T, S/E, and T/A parts on it, it has the t/a stripes but has a 440 instead of a 340 and i have a set of TT2 wheels on it, originallity is that last thing i am concearned with, i have never been to a show in my area where cars were judged on originality, they are all beauty contests, i am just wondering what to do to clean it up a little bit. I drive my car all the time, but i do enjoy taking it to shows, i am a very competitive person so i like my car to do well, i dont get all p'd off if i dont get a trophy, but its nice when i do.

I am going to be doing some work to it this week such as painting the brake booster and master cylinder, doing some work to clean up the wiring and some other misc. stuff. Ill post a pic whenever i get it all done and see what you guys think.

It looks real clean now so a bit of paint and polish will go a long way.

What do the cars with higher scoring bays look like?  Stock modified etc?  Maybe the judges will like a bit of bling?

Most of them have a few thousand dollars worth of polished aluminum and chrome under the hood.

Here is a pic i just took, i have redone the fan, put some black plastic wire cover around the old nasty battery cable, I have to take the radiator out this week to have a new over flow put on because mine broke off so i will be repainting the radiator, while its out im going to take off and paint the brake booster and master cylinder, and paint the carb linkage

I need an offset fan shroud for a 22 inch radiator if you know of anyone that has one, also do you have a picture of the pcv line that is run thru the accelerator bracket hole.

I have the hood to cowl seal, i just havent installed it, i also have added a battery tie down, and most of the shows i go to are just beauty contestes, there are so few mopars where i live that the old ones and the new ones arent even in different classes so none of the judges know weather something is correct or not.

I am going to do something with the wiring, and the car is all set up for a vintage air kit, i just havent ordered it yet, also the engine was set up for an ac car and the alternator bracket wont bolt on unless the ac bracket is on there.

So is there anything else???

I really like the clean look of the firewall.  I want to do that when I redo my car.

I like to idea of the matching valve covers, you could also paint the valve covers and air cleaner to match the engine.

If you are going with aftermarket valve covers, you could go with aftermarket wire looms and clean up the wire routing (I hate when the wires go over the valve covers).

You could also clean up the alternator, (paint it or maybe a chrome or polished one).

I have been to several local car shows lately and i have been scoring anywhere from an 89 to a 91. I usually do 23-24 on paint, 21-22 on interior, 21-22 on wheels, lamps, and brightwork, but my engine and engine compartment are what is hurting me, i am getting between 18-19. Most of the stuff under the hood is new and i have it cleaned up nice, but it just isnt as fancy as some of the other cars. What would you guys suggest doing to bump that 18-19 up to around 22-23. Also i am only looking to spend 200 dollars or so.   Any suggestions????

Wow I was wondering if this was an Australian car, everything was backwards...  :sly:

That air cleaner has to go, doesn't go with the engine
