Diff ID & Possible Swap

Hi All

I mentioned in a previous post that I had problems with excess movement in side & pinion gears in the diff of my Challenger. After I had a local diff guy look at it he suggested a complete new hemisphere would probably be the best solution, only one problem with that, its hard to find anyone in Australia that can id the diff over the phone, so any help would be appreciated.

The diff parts guy I've been speaking to says he can't find a listing for a Dodge diff with a 9 bolt cover all his lists say it should have 10 bolt holes in the cover. My car was originally a 1970 318 auto car with open centre,
the diff looks all original & the cover is roughly hexagonal shape with 9 bolt holes. It has the numbers 321 & G2070051 cast into the back of the housing. The crown wheel  has the following words & number sequences stamped into it  HELIXFORM  2800275  2.76   1 12 7C 1.
Can anyone give me an id based on this, any info would be helpful .

Thanks for the reply, mine most closely resembles the Dana 30 although my cover seems to have more of a point at the top & also the photo in the link looks like it may have a bolt hole right in the  middle at the top, it's not clear enough to tell for sure.  If thats so then it would have one more hole than mine.

70 318 Dodge Challengers had a 7.25 rear with 9 holes. They went to 8 3/4 the next year....Check the link

Thanks mine is definitely the 7 1/4 mopar diff, anyone know a good place for parts for these.

That's easier said than done as I'm in Australia & they don't exactly grow on trees, however, whilst on the subject, I have been offered  a complete 8 3/4  assembly out of a 72 cuda. The price is ok so I'm probably going to take it, but just so I know what I'm in for, will this be a straight bolt in? I've checked the drum to drum width & it's identical to mine, are the leaf spring mounts the same etc, & what about the tailshaft I assume it will have to be modified/replaced?

I'd like to know what the whole job is before I do the deal, also to do the exchange both parties are in for a 3 to 4 hour drive as we are in different states, can anyone help with this info.

PS I really appreciate the help offered by you guys it saves lots of time & heart ache.
