This family of ground squirrels decided to make their den right beside my sidewalk. Pretty cute but they sure make a lot of holes all over my yard.

seem to be rather sociable as well, unless you set up a blind and took those shots via remote
ala mutual of omahas wild kingdom style.

we have a rabbit family and a mole or 2 , the usual florida waterfowl ,  the occasional otter , and the resident red-tailed hawk .

gotta love wildlife.

They are cute little animals. We have a couple that come up on our porch, and eat peanuts and corn. We have a little skunk to. I was trying to get my neice to go out and pet it. i told her it was a cat. :roflsmiley: She didnt believe me

My cat, Harley, would make short order of them.

"usraptr" = United States raptor - bird of prey = United States Bald Eagle.  FYI, somebody else thought of it first so I had to drop the "O" in raptor.

No, these are different than prairie dogs. The camera is a Canon Powershot with whatever lens it comes with.

No, their not very sociable. I saw them hanging out there right in front of my step, so I just sat VERY still on the step with my camera and waited for them to come out. They weren't quite sure what to make of me. If I moved the slightest bit, they were gone.

Thirteen-lined ground squirrel,          Spermophilus tridecemlineatus        (formerly Citellus spp.)

http://icwdm.org/handbook/rodents/13linedgroundsquirrel.asp

There is a lot of information on that species at the address above.

I plan on mounting a few of these squirrels this year.   Archery style.

Reminds me of picking the lead shot out of my mouth from eating the squirrel legs from my dads hunting trips.

My cat, Harley, would make short order of them.

My cat would do the same.  I'd be waking up to my wife hollering about the cat leaving more guts on the patio and for me to "come clean up after your cat!!"
