Jacking up a New Challenger?
« on: June 19, 2009 - 06:26:14 PM »
The manual says absolutely nothing about how to jack up this new Challenger.  No mention of lift points, jack stand locations or anything  :grinno: Has anyone done this yet (and without damage)?  Does Mother Mopar think nobody works on their own cars anymore? Or because it has no spare or jack, that info is not needed?  :clueless: I'm paranoid of damaging this baby!  Pics would be great  :1zhelp:

Doing an oil change or something? I like to use ramps unless you need to pull the tires off.

It's pretty easy.   :grinyes:

If you feel around the rocker panel, there are flat spots near the front and rear for a jack. I used a two ton hydraulic jack with no problems.

Yep, want to get new oil in this weekend if possible.  I have a pair of ramps, but they are too narrow for these 245 tires and the air dam is a problem (would need to use blocks).

Thanks MEK, I'll take a closer look.  Did you use jack stands?

Actually I didn't. I just needed to jack one side up a couple of inches so I could slide under for the oil change. Getting that service tray off and back on was the only tough part. The oil change itself is easy as the filter is right up in the corner of the oil pan. You'll see what I mean.

Not to be preachin' Mike, but please use jack stands.  A cousin of one of my friends had his firehawk fall on him and crush him to death.  These cars are so low now days there is no forgiveness if they fall even with tires still on.  I plan on coming back to carlisle in a year or two, and would like to be able to shoot the breeze with ya again.  Hope I'm not offending you or anyone else, just don't want hear bad news.

I'll try to get under the car on Sunday and find a place for the jack stands.  I won't work under a car without two sets for safety  :grinyes:

Finally got around to changing the oil today.  Found jack points on the frame rail (see pics).  They are more inboard than the 71 and the hydraulic jack almost doesn't fit under the car.  Had no problems getting the ground effects plastic plate off or on, but the factory oil filter was almost welded on  :pullinghair:
