    I started stripping the undercoating with a heat gun but I just bought some soybean oil I am going to try a spot shortly I will let you know if it works.

    I did mine last Winter. It came off nice with a Milwaukee heat gun and scrapers.Then a shot with brake cleaner and scotch-brite pad.The cleaner softens it up,Then it clogs up the scotch-brite. It cleaned up nice.My shoulders/back hurt for a month.  soy bean oil???  That's funny... where it was dark and saturated with oil it came right off. Hmmmm. :popcorn:

    I used a needle scaler, it took all the thick stuff of no problem along with any scaly rust. Two in one.
    Then I hit it with a wire wheel where needed.
    Loud, but worked with no fumes or wet slop.

    I bought mine from Princess Auto here in Ontario which I think is very much the same as Harbour freight in the states.

    I'd say it took about a week. Doing a section every day. The more you do the better you get a system down and you speed up. I'd work a 2'x2' area,Then move on. The nooks and cranny's take some time. I had a little pillow with me so I could relax my neck some.Working construction...I have a "get it done" attitude. Crank up the tunes and scrape away!!  :working:

    Check this out. I stopped by a guys house near Birmingham several weeks ago looking at a car for sale and he just completed stripping the undercoating (and it was really thick) from a 70 Cuda. He used a rented steam cleaner and it took him about 6 hours. He sprayed it down with some type of citrus cleaner prior to blasting but it came out super clean and you can still see alot of the factory primer and marks. I took several pics because I was amazed at the job it did.

    I tried soy bean oil it's been soaking for about 10 hours it may be just softening up the top a bit. To me it looks like you would need to soak it and scrape multiple time before you get anywhere.   I am going to see what it looks like in a day and I may apply more soy bean oil.

    It was in amazing condition and I was told it was a "V" code car but I didn't see the vin to verify since the car was stripped down. I went by to make an offer on the 70 duster he has for sale and he told me the product he used was SC-101 asphalt remover from Etowah Chemical in Birmingham, he rented the steam cleaner from the same place. I would think any steam cleaner sales facility would have a similar product. He said he let it soak for 2-3 hrs and had to re-apply twice to get it all off but it was still a slow process but the results speak for themselves.     Maybe one day I can afford a Cuda!!

    I've gotten about ½ way done doing it with the torch and putty knife.  It's not difficult and I'm doing like others have said... a couple hours here and there.  My guess is with a torch and knife it will be about 10 to 12 hours when it's all done.

    No luck with soy bean oil it's been soaking for a few day's.  Heat and a scraper is the way to go.
