That is the thinnest snap ring available so you will have to machine the plate.

I can live with that, I was expecting much worse!  Shouldn't cost too much.  Everything else looked mint.

As for the #3 thrust washer, is there another metal washer on the non LU transmissions along with the wearing fiber one?  Mine just has a fiber washer.

No,the metal "shim" washer is on the LU's (late) only.

Thanks, I really appreciate it!  I think for now I will get the pressure plate machined down and see how it shifts.  Maybe I won't need to toss the CRT VB after all.

Do you have orifice plug in the front clutch feed passage? If you have 2->3 shift bind up you really should have a plug installed.

Yes I do, my problem is that it slams into reverse and 3rd gear.  It doesn't bind at all.  My front clutch pack clearance is way too tight, I'm going to get the pressure plate turned down and see how it works.  If it still has a problem, it will hopefully be in the VB.  I can do that in the car so that's no biggie.

With the clearance being that tight, the clutches also can be dragging in park or neutral if you rev up the engine.

I'm currently getting it put back together and waiting on my pressure plate, and have hopefully only one last question.  There is a hole in the extension housing bushing, does this hole point up or down towards the ground when installed?  I just want to make sure I installed it right.

It aligns with the groove at the top of the extension housing.(feeds fluid thru the hole)

Just got done road testing her, all good so far.  It shifts so much better now.  Reverse and 3rd are tolerably firm, and I can feel the 1-2 shift unlike before.

It is so much smoother too, and it feels like the car is much more responsive in general.  Before it would rev a bit before doing anything going down the road or at a stop like a sloppy high stall, now it feels like it has a much tighter converter even though it is the same 3500 stall.

The engine runs and feels smoother too, my car vibrates a whole lot less and the exhaust is quieter at all times.  The front clutch must have been dragging to some extent.  Thanks to everybody for their help!
