Rear sway bar/bushings + shocks advice ?
« on: July 17, 2004 - 10:25:54 PM »
Ok ,  I put longer wheel studs in the back axles so I could run a different rim.[thicker hub section]
Was :  14x6" factory rallyes with 225/70/14  Daytona tires.
Now Is :   16x9" Chrysler Conquest Factory Optional rims w/  245/45/16  Yokohama AVS sports.

So now on any road with an uneven surface, including my street, there is a rattle now coming from the rear axle area... :(

I think it is the rear sway bar connections making noise as they appear to be the originals.
I believe going to the short sidewall tire has removed some of the give/cushion effect the tall 14" tires.

Any suggestion on alternate causes,  shock manufacturers,  and sway bar bushings, etc. ????

Have installed KYB Gas-adjusts before [other cars] and was reasonably happy with them.
It also has super stock springs underneath it.
Couldn't find a much wider tire in High performance rubber/design- rated @ 186+mph !

the spring clamps could be loose & vibrating
is the center register size the same on both rims ???
the short sidewall will definatly transmit more vibration the thew chassis

No scanner or digital camera- all money spent on car parts .
But I'll sent some pictures thru the mail if you want em.

How do you mean by Register Chrycho ?
They are 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern.  But the center hub itself is thicker, and the metal where the stud actually passes thru is thicker also.
Had to go with Moroso 3" studs and open ended lug nuts as I couldn't find studs in a shorter length that would allow closed end nuts.

It does seem to push the wheels out to the edge of car about an inch more, but maybe its an optical illusion.

Also, silly me did not think to measure the width of front disc  wheel bearing hub/section , before I had the rotors turned and pressed in longer front studs, so something will need to be machined down a slight amount, either the hub, or the rim center.
I am thinking machining the rim center is the safer way to go ?
need to measure with calipers but probably no more that 1/10 inch [ I hope]
So 'Cuda is wearing rallyes on the front for now...

register size = hub diameter
the rear hub in the center of the rear axle flange is probably too large also & may be holding  the wheel from sitting onto the drum face
Definatly maching the center hub of the wheel not the hub of the disc brake
the rattle could be the brake drum , it is probably loose between the axle flange & wheel

Will have to check brake drum tightness to axle.  I did hear a few clicks out of the drivers side rear brake while coming to a stop that wasn't there before the axle/studs/rim work.
Doesn't seem to be any interference on rear rim installation. Goes on easy, snugs up flush.

Shock + Bushing suggestions  for future reference ?
