Swinger Beater
« on: June 22, 2009 - 08:17:59 PM »
Here is the 1975 Dodge Dart Swinger I picked up for $500 that I am going to use as my daily driver/beater. It has a 225 /6 with automatic transmission and 7 1/4 rear. The exterior has been repainted once and has som rust at the lower quarters, the trunk, and the passenger fender. I have rust free fenders, passenger quarter, and grille from a '74 4 door. Once the Challenger is done I will take the modified 318 that came out of the Challenger and I will put that in the Dart.

Looks better after a bath and when the bumper guards are removed.

I took the cluster out to clean it and figure out why the spedometer wasn't working and why the lights were not lighting up. Well the spedometer cable was disconnected and the little bulb retainers were broken. Does anyone know where to get those? I also noticed there was a relay missing under the dash, I think it's the buzzer for the starter interlock system, but I am not sure. Anyone know what relay runs from the brown and yellow wires? :dunno:

I would like to bring it to the show this weekend but I still need to replace the busted torsion bar, fix the rusted trunk braces, and get it inspected. I just replaced the wiper bushings so thats one thing down. I would hate for you to drag one of those tires all the way to the show so maybe we could come by your place or something and pick it up?

Chris,
you ought to send Bill Evans (Evans wiring) an email and ask him a question or two about your "A" body. Depending on the date of manufacture, he may have wiring stuff applicable to your car. I don't think he carries anything past '74. But like my car which is a '74, has the'73 harness installed as it was built in late '73. You can do a Goggle for Evans Wiring. I got my engine wiring harness from him and he is VERY knowledgable. And yeah, you can come by and look at the tires or any other parts. Just let me know when and we can arrange a time!!

Looks good Chris! :2thumbs: How many bolts were holding the bumper guards on? I want to take the back ones off my Duster.

That makes me miss my '73 Swinger, /6 triple green with absolutely unremoveable AARP stickers and all...  It was a good car.

Just 2 per guard. I still need to go and pick up some chrome bumper bolts to fill the holes, but once thats done it should look a whole lot better.

Once I fix all the rust I plan on painting it the new Challenger dark blue metallic with a white stripe. I'll peel the vinyl top off soon fix the rust and just paint it white, but I would like to put a vinyl top back on.
