"usraptr" = United States raptor - bird of prey = United States Bald Eagle.  FYI, somebody else thought of it first so I had to drop the "O" in raptor.

I'd just use a 2 part epoxy and try to texture it to match as best I could.  Paint/dye it afterwords.

I was considering using a clay bar to make a mold.
Then firing the clay so that it is hard.
Next apply some sort of epoxy that is not sticky like glue but will hold a shape.
Then just press the mold onto the epoxy to take care of the gouged place.

I havn't done this yet, just thought about it a good bit.
