Hagerty or Grundy insurance - which do you prefer?
« on: June 23, 2009 - 03:09:17 PM »
I received quotes from these two... and Grundys quote is half as much, plus Grundy allows "unlimited" mileage, which is one less thing to worry about.
Any experiences out there?
Thanks

I too carry Grundy, cannot tell you about service because I've NEVER had to file any type of claim. AND I HOPE IT STAYS THAT WAY.  :roflsmiley:

I don't know how far they can "custom make" a plan for a customer. But in my case the car cannot be driven as a daily driver, just to shows, parades etc. But they do allow you to desiginate value. They also required above the standard information detailed pictures of outside and interrior of car, including engine capartment when application was made. They also understood the car on occasion had to be driven for maintance work, and didn't "mind" if when on the way home from a show if you stopped at a resturant or for a "loaf of bread".

I just went with Hagerty, through my agent.   They did not impose a mileage limit and there were no issues about driving ONLY to/from shows (just cannot be a daily driver -- in other words - as long as I have another car (not insured with them) as a daily driver, they were ok ....    I have to admit, I didn't check Grundy.....

I originally had Haggarty, but the price seemed to keep going up.  I switched to American Collector, only difference is the milage limitation.  But this was a non-issue for me, no way my car is being driven 2500 miles a year.

Same here. American Collector car insurance.  100 bucks a year per car. I have four cars insured by them and have had them for 12 years now.  What are your rates ??

I have Hagerty and pay $201.99 per year for $22,000 agreed value for the first car. Each additional car was only going to cost me another $50 to $75 per year because they say "once I have the 1st one, adding other cars is a lot cheaper"

Some of my friends have State Farm covering their collector cars cheaper but State Farm wants all of your cars and house before they give you a deal. So I've stuck with Hagertyfor 9 years.  They have a limit of 3000/miles/year, no one under 25 driving , and no racing rules.  I haven't priced American Collector though

71 cuda clone, considered "modified" because its not original, $30k coverage, no deductible:
Grundy $227
Hagerty $569
High numbers because I'm in south Florida, with some of the highest rates in the country.

The Grundy site also says they do not have a mileage limit. I think I'm going with them!

My yearly premium with Grundy for the Charger and Challenger is like $250.00, this is with a total of $50k combined coverage. I however have the other three insured this year through our family car policy because they are at "storage" status and Grundy does not carry such a clause. I would like to be able to have a storage status for all of them since they do sit garaged 12 months out of the year and none driven from Oct. to May. Does anyone know if American Collector Car offers such a storage rider?

I am with Grundy.  Sent an appraisal and pics and am paying a fair price for an agreed to value....    :2thumbs:
This year, without prompting by me, Grundy raised the value 3%......     :money:

As a retired insuranceman -- I am interested in this (even though I just turned all my insurance decisions over to my insurance agent-daughter in-law!).    I just quoted my 2 Challengers with both Grundy & Hagarty.   Same values & coverages, except the Grundy website allowed me to increase the liability limit (This is something to consider, to match your underlying limits with whatever you are carrying on your other (daily driving) cars and especally anyone carrying an umbrella policy).

Anyway, they came out with premium quotes that were within $4.00 of each other.....   Rates can vary significantly by state.
