Need Location Of Gas Tank Braces
« on: June 23, 2009 - 04:10:32 PM »
I know the brace that hold the tank and straps is angled some. Does anyone have measurements where they should be installed?
Need the location measurements of where they go?
I know they angle some and are not straight.
Would love to have a Diagram of the proper location showing fron the center or edges.

Also Thinking  maybe it would be better to install them prior to install of the one piece trunk floor

Yknow,  I ran into this problem last year.
First I mocked up the straps in the floor of the trunk pan, without the pan on - it was not easy!
I took some measurements from the framerail.
Then what I did was set the straps down on the floor, set the tank on top an made measurements.
Then I did the same thing upside down.

Hope this gives you some ideas, without a measurement off-hand.

Best,

Dan

Body shop cut the old pan out and gave the car back with nothing also ruined the 2 parts of the new one so i have nothing to go on.
I now have a the new single part trunk floor and was hoping someone had a tank out and could take pics or measure and note what they have.
Thanks for the reply

The braces are straight on my '73 Challey, the frame is wider at the rear.
The braces are 10" apart on center, & aproax. 18" from the inside of frame to center of brace at the rear (my left measured 18", right 18 3/8") 14 1/4" at the front.

Would this be the same for a Cuda?  I'll be putting my trunk braces in shortly and am curious as well.

I have pictures showing the proper dimensions, but everytime I try attaching the pictures it say the upload files are full. Not sure. I've resized the pictures and split the files very small so I'm thinking its not me. I'll try them later.

Here's my measurement for the supports. This is on a 71 Challenger. Most measurements are from the edge of the frame rail lip as you will see (the top most part that is at a 90* to the rail).

Maybe these will help.
