No number stamping on a 340 block
« on: June 23, 2009 - 05:42:09 PM »
Has anyone heard of why a 340 block would have no numbers stamped on the front?

The engine in my 70 340 cuda was swapped out early in its life by a Chrysler/Ply dealer.  Its a late (October) 71 casting, with a steel crank, 2.02 J heads.  There has never been any numbers stamped on the pad above the power steering pump where the size and vin should be.

Someone once told me it could be a warranty block.  Has anyone heard of a "numberless" block before?

That would be my theory.
