sticking clutch
« on: June 24, 2009 - 09:16:25 PM »
well i tried something fun tonight for the first time since i made it a 4 speed..... i dumped the clutch and let her rip. well, when i popped the clutch, at first the clutch stayed on the floor, then i let up on the throttle a bit and it popped up so i floored it through 1st and i popped the clutch pedal in, slammed it to second and popped it out,,, but the clutch stayed on the floor till i let up on the gas. i got a good roast on the rear rubbers, but i really started worrying about the clutch. any ideas

Do you have a diaphram pressure plate and still have the over-center spring on the clutch pedal?  Those two don't play well together.

this is typical for a Diaphragm clutch which is why I hate them , there is no other reason I can think of for the clutch pedal to stay down

so is the 3 finger clutch what i want with the over center spring or no? the clutch is doing the same thing when i down shift and really hit it. but the only difference is the clutch does not go down, it just slips really bad.

You got a borg n beck clutch Drew.  The over center spring belongs in there.  You may need to back out on the adjustment. Or if it has been slipping bad, you may need to replace it from scorching it

Drew...Did you check the NEW motor mount??.. Not uncommon for the parts store variety to break.

Dont know if this helps, but I had a 68 GTS that did exactly the same thing. Stock motor, 4-speed, etc.

Turned out that it was too much play in the pilot shaft.
