1.6 bil for nissan?is he out of his frikin mind.they are a japanese company.let the japanese govt give the 1.6 billion.am i wrong here or what?this is BS.

 http://www.spacemart.com/reports/US_to_loan_5.9_bln_to_Ford_1.6_bln_to_Nissan_for_fuel_efficiency_999.html

Nissan will use the loans to modify its Tennessee plant to produce zero-emissions electric vehicles and the lithium-ion battery packs to power them.

With this loan, "Nissan expects to cut the costs of its batteries in half and ramp up production of 150,000 American-made competitively priced electric vehicles annually," Chu said.

Nissan welcomed the loan and said it is "committed to being a leader in zero-emissions mobility."

"This loan is an investment in America," Dominique Thormann, senior vice president for Nissan North America said in a statement.

"It will help us put high-quality, affordable zero-emissions vehicles on our roads."

Nissan plans to begin selling electric vehicles in the United States in 2010. They will initially be imported from Japan but production will shift to Tennessee once the Smyrna plant is up and running in late 2012.

ANYTHING to promote the green agenda  :villagers:  I don't have a real problem with this since it's protecting American jobs, but Ragtop stop drinking the Kool Aid and quit with the political sterotypes.  When those "Rednecks" use to vote democrat, they were victims of the system, but now that they vote repbulician, the elitist dems attack them relentlessly with the sterotype of being ignorant, rednecks, hicks, etc  It's pitiful  :grinno:

Like my Daddy has said for the last 30+ years.... Americans will spend anything for economy...
Ya know those batteries are going to cost something to recharge!!! & the power has to come from somewhere. Doesn't the Left Coast already have an overloaded power system, & refuses to have any more polluting or nuclear plants in their back yard? Can you say unintended consequence?
I'm all for Green when it makes sense & this might, but 1.6 Billion?!?!?

Oh yea... Call me a Redneck anytime....There are worse things one can be.  :bigshades:

Let's see...it took 235 years to get a debt of $5 trillion.

In 8 years, the Repubs doubled it to $10 trillion.  And for what?  What did we get?

Let's stop  the hypocrisy for once.

And the current bunch of loons in Washington has taken less than 6 months to make the $10 trillion look like nothing.
One of the main problems is what I call the ratchet effect. It is very very real, and its what is causing more and more excessive regulation and spending. You know....they only go up, and never down. Good bureaucrats never waste a good crisis. They use it to spend more and continue tightening the noose. And when things dont work, its because they didn't spend enough money!

WE NEED TO WAKE UP PEOPLE.  If all we are going to do is argue about which fool is the more foolish while China and Russia conspire our demise then we will only seal our doom!  I am a conservative and vote Republican but I am at least honest about the fact that both parties are conducting themselves recklessly and we all will pay the price.  There is way too much corruption on both sides and it is our fault.  People need to quite voting for people for what they say and pay more attention to what they do and the results of what they do.

I wonder how much of that debt is owed by a conservative majority congress as opposed to a liberal majority congress. I honestly dont know and would like to see it in black and white. The current administration is ramming much more down our throats at a much faster pace than anything I have ever seen in my life. Hypocrasy? The jury is still out on that one imo.

Ok  here's my :2cents:.  WE forget that this country had a surplus in cash in '00.  Eight years later we are in major debt.  How did we get in this trouble.  How did we get here?
1)  We are in a war that we should not be in.  For those of us that are old enough, remember that the Soviet Union was in Afgan for 10 years in a war.  It cost them dearly.  The cost of the war is only 15% of the debt

2)  Seven years ago there was a tax cut that was to last a few years but was extended in 2005.  We all know that if we don't have funds coming in, then we end up in debt.  The tax cut is roughly 35% of the debt.

3)  In 2008 we had the great melt down.  Remember TARP  This has cost us dearly.  I feel that they should have let the banks go down but it would have been real bad for us.  During the late 90's banks were allowed to merge and become to big.  Congress passed the laws to allow this mistake.  TARP is about 10% of debt.  We have made some money on the TARP deal.

4)  Our heath care system is costing us 30% of the debt.  Now think about how many people you know that abuse their bodies due to drinking, smoking and over eating.  Just go into the emerg room and you will find people there that don't need to be there.

5) Last we have the stimulus bills ( one in 2003 and one in 2007 and one in 2009) and loans to the auto industry.  As a fiscal conservative I don't believe in spending money wastefully.  In this case were going to loose our manufacturing.  This country grew on manufacturing.  Remember the industrial revolution.  As for the stimulus bills, two were given to tax payers.  The other was used for infastruture which has not been fully spent.

Youre right about the war...I think we should have just carpet bombed baghdad, maybe even nuked it, and leveled Afghanistan....literally. Would have cost us only a few million, and sent a message to those that wish to have us praying to Mecca...one they would understand...DONT TREAD ON ME!
Instead, now we're paying our blood and dollars to protect the rest of the civilized world from these nutcase zealots.

Well for one thing we have not had a surplus of cash for a LONG time. We might have had a brief period where we had no budget deficit but its been forever since we had no national debt. I agree it has grown excessively, in the last few years particularly.
