My 5 Month Stay in the Netherlands
« on: June 27, 2009 - 02:01:25 PM »
Well, after being in Europe for the past five months, my stay here is dwindling down.  I'm catching my flight back to the states at 4:15 P.M. local European time tomorrow (Sunday) and must say I am having mixed feelings. :-\  For those of you who didn't know, I landed a great girlfriend from Finland while I was here, so that really complicated things at this point in time.  She left today for Finland and I'll soon be on my own way home. :'(  I'm also kind of sad I didn't get a chance to meet up with Dutch or any of the other members here in Europe, but I did have a good time while I was here (didn't even end up making it to Italy to meet my relatives due to already spending so much money here).  It's definitely a different lifestyle/belief system than what I was used to in the Midwest (or the U.S. in general), but I met some very cool people from all over the world while I have been here in Zwolle, NL.

Thanks.  It will be cool to eventually meet you, too.  I've met plenty of cool Dutch people here and wished I could have met up with a couple more I have talked to via car forums.

Well, I'm back in the U.S. after five months abroad...Aside from having to spend a night in Heathrow London due to missing my second flight, things went alright.

Unfortunately, I've spent so much money over the past five months that I cannot make the trip to Carlisle. :(  I'll for sure reserve that weekend in '10 so I can finally catch up with everyone again. :2thumbs:

Glad to hear you had a great time and experience. I've been overseas a few times and I recommend the experience to anyone living here in the US. So many folks never even get outside of the local community they live in to experience life abroad. It can definitely change your perspective of things. Especially in a third world country. Glad you made it home safe. Save some money for Carlisle 2010!!! :2thumbs:

I thought I'd update this thread as I have booked a flight back to Europe for December...I'm going to Finland!!!  :woohoo:

My next question is does anyone from Finland have any suggestions for a nice place to spend New Year's?  We were trying to make plans for Rovaniemi in Lapland, but it's looking like all the hotels in existence are already fully booked by now. :-/
