Success! Ipod in my Challenger
« on: June 28, 2009 - 06:18:08 PM »
Well, I got it figured out.    I have an a.m. radio in my '70 and wanted to keep it looking stock - but with IPOD capability.   So, here's what I did.    first, I spent about $12 bucks on an accessoary (power) outlet, ran a wire under the console and hid it in the counsel.   I then spent $5.99 for some 3 inch speakers (and wire off ebay) which I then hid behind my rear panels (no holes) - but near the light (convertibles have holes in the lower portion of the rear panels with courtesy lights).    Since the IPOD couldn't power the speakers enough just from its output plug to headphones, I found a "mini-automobile amplifier" on ebay for $13.00 (Hong Kong) - including shipping.   It arrived today and works!   So, I now can plug my IPOD into the amp and listen to my tunes (I also disconnected the single front speaker and the old a.m. radio sounds better too).   I had to buy another $20 bucks or so of stuff from radio shack (12 V. power cord for the Amp that plugs into the new power outlet).... and a short RCA plug wire from the IPOD to the Amp -- but for less than $50 I think I'm all set!    :bananasmi

I've enclosed some pics of the Amp and speakers if anyone in curious (Amp is only about 5 inches long), has bass, treble & volume!

How does the speaker sound behind the panel with no holes. I don't want mine to look like it has new speakers and would like to keep think hidden. Great idea!

They are fine.  I sometimes wish I had more base....... but that is due to the speakers I intalled (I think).   Overall, there is plenty of sound (even with the top down doing 75!

I have a cassette deck and use a cassette to the headphone jack on the Ipod.  Or I have one of those docks where it plugs into cigarette lighter... charges Ipod and transmits music to a unused radio station.
