Leaking Prop. valve, need help.
« on: July 01, 2009 - 11:04:01 PM »
Hello everyone, i'm having a bit of an issue with my proportioning valve block. For some reason the bottom nut/plug with the spring in it is leaking. It gets much worse when you step on the brake pedal. Keep in mind Everything is brand new; lines, valves, master cylinder, brake booster. I have read everything i have to try and figure this out. Any help would be much appreciated.

I guess you have already tried tightening the nut more with no luck.  So, is it possible to put some teflon tape on the threads of the nut/plug?

I was thinking it was faulty. Ill try the tape first. I assumed the fluid would eat up the tape????

Just last week I put on a new vacuum brake booster and new master cylinder.  All went well until I couldn't get the front brake line going into the master cylinder to stop leaking.  The fitting was tight but the line was loose, you could wiggle the brake line.  I had to really tighten down that bad boy to get it to stop leaking.  The line was not that tightened down when I removed the old master cylinder.

Long story short, I got it to stop leaking by cranking on the fitting more than I felt comfortable with, but it worked.

I had the same trouble with the exact same things just last week and as Hood said I had to tighten them so much they (the valve and master) felt like they were gonna break.
