The 4th of July, old cars, and freedom
« on: July 03, 2009 - 01:20:16 PM »
As we prepare to celebrate americas independence day it occurs to me that theres just not as much freedom to celebrate as there used to be.  I was just sitting here contemplating all the things that have changed since my 1971 model car left the showroom.  I thought id list a few here and see if anyone else had similar thoughts.

1.  You were old enough to have a beer and be blown up in a war 5000 miles away. now you only get the war part
2.  You could smoke a cigarette most anywhere including the business you owned.
3.  You could actually launch fireworks on the 4th of July
4.  There were no government surveillance cameras with face recognition software monitoring highways and streets.
5.  There were no so called drunk driving checkpoints where armed uniformed members of the state stop you at a barricaded roadblock and ask to see your papers before you can pass.
6.   If you wanted a shotgun to go pheasant hunting with your buddies this weekend you went in and bought one. no instant background checks that take 5 days
7.   Seatbelt use was optional and your car didnt have thousands of dollars in added mandated equipment everything from catalytic converters to air bags to TPMS on your tires.
8.   You could spend a few grand on something and not have your banker tell the federal government about it.
9.   There werent any so called hate speech laws.  if you didnt like something someone said you remembered what you were taught " sticks and stones " .  words in the 21st century are treated like a baseball bat attack circa 1971
10.  A kid could ride his or her bike on a hot summer day without being forced by the government to put a polysterene lid on his head.

those are just a few that i came up with but im sure i could think of dozens more.  As the government continues to pursue even more socialist policies i fear its only going to get worse.

Although remember when people took responsability for themself rather then let the there lawyer deside blame. George Carlin was right, we are raising a country of pussy's. Trouble is they grew up and are now running the place.

Your Daddy could give you a attitude adjustment in the seat of your pants without being arrested for child abuse.

"Your kid could ride a bike" and come home, now the chances of getting abducted are alot higherso we go on orange alert and we need the face recognition camera to catch the dirtbag who kidnapped them. And now when they are caught they get off on some stupid technicality and if convicted only get 7 years in a prison.sorry.

From the chip the government implanted at birth....  :eek7:
1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

A lot of us look back on the "good ole days" as being all good but there were a lot of things "wrong" back then also.I agree some of the changes are for the worse but some are definitly for the better.
