Yes, they did.

In 1970 N95 was EEC - Evaporative Emission Control.

The system changed for the 1971 models & was called NOEC - Nitrous Oxide Emmission Control (AKA NOX).

If you bought a 318 Challenger/Cuda convertible at a dealer in California to be registered in California, it would be from Hamtramck.

And BTW, just because a car was built at the Los Angeles plant does not mean it automatically get N95 either. A car built at the LA plant could be sold in Alaska, Maine, HI, whatever.

Just in case anyone does not know....

All 1971-74 E-Bodies were built at the Hamtramck plant.

The 1970 cars were built in Hamtramck & LA, but LA does not appear to have built them the entire 1970 model year.

Second week of May for the E-bodies (so far) but the A & B bodies kept going much longer.  :clueless:

Interesting...possibly a bulletin exists dated somewhere around that point in the 1970 production year to explain the whys and wherefores. Mopar - cheolgy is fun  :)

Of coure, along that train of thought, now curiosity has me wondering the first and last known SPDs of xx29 (xx = JH, JS) Special Edition cars assembled at each plant.
for

My own JS29 car is taking long enough to show me that it's less expensive - and more important - to learn about the SE model than find ways to spend money on it.

(in Kwai - Chang Kane voice) The way of the student is the path to knowledge. Thank you, master :worshippy

There's a guy that came to our last club meeting that worked in the LA plant from the mid sixties untill it closed. He told me the various departments he worked in.

He's an original owner of a green 1970 Dodge Charger R/T.

I asked him a few quick questions but was busy with running the club meeting.

If someone had a plant layout or pictures it would probably stir up his memory and he could give more insight. I just didn't have any question's prepared for him.

I have searched for LA assembly plant photos for years with no luck so far.  :walkaway:

This is a shipping tag that was found wired inside inside a Hamtramck built Challenger's bucket seat frame. The car was scheduled for mid-April build. It appears that LA may have been shipping their E-Body parts to Hamtramck in preperation for the shutdown;

Unless an entire build record surfaces for both plants, there is no way to know.

The 1971 Ward's Automotive Yearbook does breakout production between plants for the 1970 model year:

Hamtramck     67,126
Los Angeles    15,906

1970 Barracuda:
Hamtramck     45,788
Los Angeles      9,711
