new....sort of

Hello, I have been lurking on the site for a while now, but this feels like my first official day....Last night at around 11pm, i finished my trek from upstate ny, to boston, and back home, about 3500 lbs heavier than i started it.  Brought home a 1973 Challenger.  origonaly a 318-2, now a 440.  Plum crazy with black RT stripes.  Interior is ratty, and body has some bubbling in lower quarters, but overall looks decent for now.  My question is how to id the motor?  the stamp in the front of the manifold just says H 440..

Welcome!!
The "H" tells you it is a 1972 440.
By the way, we are all picture hounds here so if you have a few photos of your new toy, please share.

Very cool - welcome to the site.

There are some other numbers on the block - the vin of the vehicle that engine was originally installed in will be stamped on the oil pan rail.  IIRC, it's on the drivers side near the back - someone else will know for sure.  There will also be some information cast into the side of the block, including the part #, a date and time code and possibly some other information that will tell you more about what you have.

These are some of the numbers on my block - the second one doesn't show the number but will show you what the stamping pad looks like.
