Parts questions
« on: July 07, 2009 - 11:52:55 AM »
Have a question for anyone who will answer.  Just went and brought about 90% for the parts I needed from my front suspension/steering rebuild from Autozone (I'm internet shy for large mulitple purchases).  They are Duralast parts, used them several times on many cars with no problems to note.  Did I make a good choice?  I am just learning about Moog, never heard of them before, is that something I should have gone for or am I OK?

Anybody know a good place to get a power steering gear box?

I have used Duralast brake shoes and parts like that on my driver cars, but for suspension parts, I personally think it is worth the extra bother to hunt down the Moog.  I am also picky about bearings, and will pay extra to get Timken made in the USA bearings.  Spicer  heavy duty U joints are also worth the hassle to find.

I guess it all depends on whether or not you can return the stuff you bought.  If you can, I would.  If you can't I don't think the Duralast parts will make your car unsafe, but I personally prefer Moog.

I have a new stock steering box on my car now, but plan to swap it out for a Firm Feel power steering box.

I have heard really good things about them and would like to actually get a little feedback from my steering.

Well in my case I generally try to buy Moog for my projects & cutomers , on the other hand fo the amount these car typically get driven it will take decades for them to wear out again

Unless your really driving your car hard, like road course stuff, you will probably be fine with the Duralast stuff.

Steering box, I'd say Firm Feel. You can choose the level of firmness in the assist to get rid of the annoying stock feel of super light steering. Google them for a link.
