Greetings from Antigo, WI
« on: July 07, 2009 - 01:27:44 PM »
Hello all. new member here. I recently purchased a 1974 Dodge Challenger Rallye JH23L4B factory 4 speed Car. The prevoius owner held the car 19 years and was forced to sell due to an impending divorce. The Car has 65065 Miles on the clock and I've matched the engine block and trans to the cars serial number. The 360 has been worked over with 11:1 pistons, Cam, Headers, and a Holley 750 Double Pumper carb. The original Pistol grip was removed and replaced with a racing shifter with a reverse lock out lever. ( dumb) The past owner appears to have used a hammer and chisel to cut a huge hole in the tunnel for this ****er, which is coming out im happy to say. Somehow he broke the speedometer needle in the gauge but as im going to restore this car, the gauge package is now out for repairs. The rear Axle is an 8 3/4 suregrip with 4:11's. I might pull the 4:11 in favor of 3:55 for drivability. The original interior was reworked with a weird button tucked pattern and the carpet was a shag household type. ALL build sheets are gone as is the build plate in the engine bay, so im at a loss to know how the car was ordered. A friend tells me that 74 360 4 speed cars are rare, but i can not find any 74 production numbers yet. Whats really odd is that there is NO reverse lamp in the dash between the ash tray and the glove box, yet the tunnel looks factory.
I do think that the car is a Console Delete optioned 4 speed as there are no Console mount brackets or evidence of them ever being in the floor.
Anyway the original color was FE5 Bright Red and its going back the same color, as soon as i remove the crappy paint job the car is wearing. Ive got a ton of digital pics that i may post soon, but for now i will post a shot of the car, the day it came home. Thank for allowing me to ramble on. Happy MoPar to ya'll.

  Hello, and welcome to the forum.  Lots of Challenger owners here, so you should feel right at home.  It sounds like you have a good plan and post a few more pictures when you get a chance.

  Welcome, Maverick!

Looks like a fun car, 4 speeds are cool!  Without the fender tag under the hood, hard to tell what options your came with.  Not all Challengers came with consoles, I think that was an option.  IF there was a fender tag, a code for it would be there.  The Rallye option I believe would show up as a "A57" code on the fender tag.  No idea about the reverse light as you do have the matching tranny in thre car.  :dunno:

Have fun here!  Lots of info!
1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.
