1970 Tripple Black Convertible Cuda Clone
« on: July 07, 2009 - 09:26:02 PM »
Here are some pics of my 1970 Tripple Black Convertible Cuda Clone.  I've been meaning to do this for a while, but you know how things get busy...

A little background...My Dad was second owner when he bought the car back in 1974.  It was driven year round in Minnesota for about 5 years till a broken timing chain left the car parked beside the garage.  It sat for a few years and fortunately in the early 80's, Dad decided to restore it.  It was originally a 318 3-spd car, but it got a 340 4-spd during the restoration.  It was stored during the winters after the resto.

Back in 2007, Dad let me inherit the car early.  The car was not getting driven very much and was starting to show signs of needing some TLC.  That's when I decided to sell my 11 second street legal 1979 Mercury Capri and make room for the Barracuda.

My plan is to convert it into a Cuda Clone.  I've also upgraded to leather interrior and power disk brakes.  I've got most of the conversion done (still need to paint the rear tail light bezel flat black).  After the conversion, the focus will change to modern upgrades and dependability.  Once that is done, then the performance mods will come.

Here are some photos to start ...
The first three are from the 2009 Mopars in the Park at the Dakota County Fairgrounds in Farmington, MN.

"usraptr" = United States raptor - bird of prey = United States Bald Eagle.  FYI, somebody else thought of it first so I had to drop the "O" in raptor.

Yes, I am very fortunate to have this car.  I'm sooooo glad Dad decided to restore it rather than getting rid of it in the early 80's.

What makes this car all the more special for me is that this is "THE CAR" that lit the "fire" for me.  I'm sure everyone remembers that "First Car"...

I remember the day Dad drove it home in 1974 like it was yesterday.  I still get goose bumps when I think about it.  I was playing in the drive way when I heard this rumble unlike any I heard before.  I had to stop and look up to see what it was...this black car was rumbling up the street.  I could not take my eyes off it, something about it made my heart race and the adrenalin flow.  I had never seen a convertible with the top down before so that just multiplied things ten fold.  I stoped what I was doing to watch this car drive by, seduced by its beauty.  I couldn't believe it when it turned into our driveway and Dad was behind the wheel.  This Beautiful, yet intimidating black car kept getting closer and closer...the noise got louder and louder.  By the time Dad parked it , I was 2 feet away from the front fender.  The hair on the back of my neck and arms was standing straight up.  I had never been influenced by a car like that before, nor since.  It left quite an impression on me at 6 years old.

I could go on about the fun i had with the car in High School and summers home from college, but that's another post. :burnout:

Thanks for the stroll down memory lane...

AAhhhh, the good 'ol days...
