Just posting this as a public service announcemnet...LOL

The secondary linkage on my Edlelbrock Performer carb was missing. Now, I have been trying to flush out some driveability issues and I was thinking that linkage could help.

It finally came in the mail yesterday....and I found it when I got home from work.....WOOHOO!

So of course, like a kid at Christmas I tore open the box (summit ships a 3"x6" package in a 12"x10" box.....go figure!).....didnt even change out of my workclothes.

 :working:

Well, I was in the middle of figuring out which way the linkage goes on and it slipped and fell......ever hear the sound that one of those pachinko machines make?  I heard that linkage fall into that half-round hole where my eddy performer intake manifold meets the head on either side.....  :bricks1:     :banghead:

Well, after some colorful language on my part   :swear: , I got out the magnet-on-a-stick and started fishing.

That didnt work so then I went and go my magnet on a bendy-stick.

No instant joy either...but eventually , somehow, and with lots of praying, IT CONNECTED and I fished it back to the surface.   :angelwings:

Needless to say I will remember to cover that area with a rag in the future!

So anyways, why are those holes there?   Saw a 73 Duster with a 340 that had a Mopar intake and the same exact holes.....is it for heat transfer or something?

They are there to help the carb warm up on cold days. They work against you in hot weather and can make fuel boil in Edelbock carbs. I would like to block mine but dont want to have to pull the intake.

there are just an air gap to allow heat to escape , it prevents overheating the rest of the head

Only if you have an edelbrock 7576 manifold. Air gap intake refers to the gap that is under the manifold and above the camshaft valley. Like a big block intake only on a small block.

been there done that.

In fact, I dropped a holly accell pump cam down there last week.  :banghead: I gave up trying to get it out (it was a spare anyway), so I left it there to die a horribel death. :roflsmiley:

It is a realy PITA at times.
