maybe I goofed
« on: July 13, 2009 - 06:34:07 PM »
javascript:void(0); I really need somfew weeks ago. The car had a custom frame put in it. Now I am really wondering if I should try to build this car or part it out. Needs alot of sheetmetal and maybe the rear frames replaced. Anyone in southeast MI willing to talk to me and/or come see my problem(willing to pay u for your time).  It is easier for me to arrange on the phone if that works,or pm me Thanks,Andy  734-904-0743

Wow, I screwed sumthin up.  I bought a 72 barracuda a few weeks ago. The old owner had a boxed frame put in.  Now I question the accuracy of the job, rest of the story is the same above.

To me I would restore it even without seeing it.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

 :useless:

Pics of what was done would help a lot. There are frame rails available now to replace/repair what was done as long as it isn`t too hacked up.

Yes that helps a lot.  You can get all of the stuff new for replacing all of that now.  I would replace all of the rear suspension and frame railes and all of the floor panels.  Would have to see more but it should be fixable for sure.  I hope this helps.

I am sure someone here can give you the measurements to get it right.  I would but I do not have a 72 but I think they are the same.  Maybe you can get those from Barry Washington on his web site also.

:cooldancing: Cool, u may have convinced me to continue with this project. If I could've found another 72 in better shape I probably would look at it though. Thanks for your help

I have seen worse brought back to life.  I hope that you do get it restore it, it is easier today to get all of the parts you need for it and I think there are pictures on here of where rear frame rails have been replaced also.

as gordon has mentioned, all that stuff is available, and im sure someone on here has replaced it in part or all, and has it documented. or at least has the specs. from a stock rear section for referance.
and as far as referancing the rails, its all about front to back, and keeping it square, they both end equally at the tail panel.(tough for me to explain on a comp)
custom frames are not a restorers dream, but they arent that bad, if executed properly.
you alone can decide wether you'd like to build a driver, or restore the car, that in itself is a world of differance.

best of luck in whatever you decide.

Unless you have something rear I would try to get a ball park repair price and a ball park rolling shell price . How much can you do your self ? If you have to farm things out it could cost lots . Even then you have to hope who ever knows what they are doing . I didn't see any front frame pitchers or cross member pitchers either . For my money I would rather start with something solid even if it cost a little more .
