installing newer style master cylinder on cuda
« on: July 15, 2009 - 09:34:34 PM »
i bought this master cylinder off of moparts and  of as usual it's not as straight forward as advertised.
this new style does not come with the rod that hooks to the brake so i thought i had to reuse mine. after many many new swear words and some tools thrown into the neighbours driveway i finally got that snap ring out of my old cylinder and it looks like it's all one piece. the new one looks like it needs a rod with a ball on the end. can anyone help me out, oh ya and i have a 74 with manual brakes and i will try to post some pics. thanks.

there is a rubber grommet that holds the pushrod in the piston of the master cyl , just put the rod in a vise & pry the master off
you will need a new grommet to hold the pushrod in the new master

You should be able to reuse your push rod.  Here's the grommet

I found some rubber tubing at HD and made my own.
