Another Mopar nut...
« on: July 16, 2009 - 08:40:30 AM »
 :smokin:

Hi guys - new to the site, but frequent poster on some other Mopar forums.  I've hear a lot about this place, so I wanted to join the fun!

My Dad bought his first car - 1968 Charger - when it was new.  Well, after the early eighties, the car was parked, and basically sat throughout my entire childhood.  When I graduated high school in '95, my Dad sent it out to have the body worked and painted.  After that, it sat in the driveway unfinished.  i finally decided to take on the project myself.  Other than the paint, I restored the entire vehicle - engine, suspension, interior, trim, modifications, etc.  After running for a few years and less than a few thousand miles, I decided to re-build the motor with some more power :grinyes: Now it's 10.5:1 CR, Alluminum heads, Big carb, bigger cam from Hughes, roller rockers, etc. - should net me around 525hp or so at the crank.  I'm just now wrapping that up and should be driving her again within the next few weeks.

I forgot to mention - when I graduated in '95, I also bought my first car - 69 Superbee.  Older resto, but the car was in real nice shape.  After 2 years, I was forced to sell, but I vowed to by another when I bought my first house - and that's exactly what I did.  I drove up to Michigan to pick up my second Superbee not more than a month or so into owning a new house (about 5 years ago).  That Bee is still a project.

I have since moved into my second home, and aquired a couple more cars - a 71 Demon, and a 73 Barracuda.  Both are projects.  The Cuda will get a nicely worked 340, while the Demon will get a hot 360 - both in the 500hp range.

I also have a 68 Dart on the side of my house that was supposed to be a big block project, but I just sold it this month, and the guy is picking it up in the next few weeks - sorry, had to fund the Edelbrock heads and Demon carb for my Charger.

Here's a pic of the Charger - granted, it hasn't been washed in over a year, and my garage is a complete mess, but it'll give you an idea:

Well, that's  breif history of my Mopar obsession - you'll be seeing more of me.

Thanks!

Thanks guys!!

The Charger should be back on the road in the next couple weeks.  It was running fine, but I had a couple electrical gremlins about a year and a half ago (all Year One repro harnessses - go figure), so I parked it and ripped the dash and engine harness out to repair.

Since then, I decided to get rid of the old magnum 500 rims and redline repro tires and replace them with nice polished, bigger, rims and radial T/As.  I also swapped in vented/slotted disc brakes up front with a Scarebird conversion setup, new master cylinder, FirmFeel front and rear sway bars, sub frame connectors, rear wheel cylinders, 3" flowmaster exhaust, headers, new top end including eddy heads w/ 75cc chambers, Comp roller rockers, Comp hi-tech pushrods, Hughes springs and cam, Demon 850 carb, late-model internally regulated alternator w/ higher output, re-routed the charging system away from the dash harness (using the starter relay as the main BUS), Mallory Unilite dist, Mallory 6AL, Restored the grille, converted to real HID head lights with new H4 housings, Etc, etc, etc.

So basically, the electrical gremlin turned into a complete remod that has lasted the last 1 1/2 years.  Can't wait to get it out of the garage and wash, polish, and wax her.

The Demon is my next project - should be working on it by late August.
The Bee is next, and the Cuda is in my bro's garage right now disassembled.  My brother and I both own the Cuda, so he's working on it right now, and hopefully it will be done in a year or so.  It''l be a Cuda clone - it was an original 318 car, auto w/ console.

Thanks - I'll have to take more pics.  However, the rest are projects, so not all that impressive right now.  Either way, I'll get some more pics to post.
