Breather/valve cover question
« on: July 16, 2009 - 10:32:04 AM »
Did a search and the only topics were too old so decided to post a new one. I have a 440-6 w/shaker, and a 3 nipple breather, and dont know where to hook up the second hose...to the back of the shaker base? Plus, the third nipple is connected to nothing. And... the pcv valve is on the same side as the breather.
I want to install the orange 440 valve covers anyway and kill a few birds with one stone. Can anyone post pictures of their setup? Seems that moving either the breather or the pcv valve to the other side will force a long tube to the right side of that center carb.
Thanks for any advice.
Here's my setup:

PS
you'll notice the blue wire disconnected from the ballast resistor in the upper left. Couldnt start the car on my second day of owning it!
Posted this issue in the electrical section and got some great advice which nailed it.
Thanks.

Don't know about the 3-nipple but from what I've heard the breather & PCV valve should be on opposite sides.

the PCV hose takes the long route around the back of the carbs to the left valve cover

Thanks. I'll put the pcv valve on the other side with the new covers, and get a breather with only two connections, cause I assume one goes to the back of the shaker cleaner base...I think?

My 71 Cuda 340 has a 3 port cap and the third port connects to a vapor recovery tube by the gas tank.  Don't know if this is applicable to your car tho. I had the same question a while ago.

So thats what all those gas tank evaporative tubes are for. Several seem to vent up into the line in the trunk, but one probably originally went all the way up front to "recirculate". Dont need it now, and since its a clone I'm not THAT interested in originality.
Thanks
